Locked out of a 2005 vette

I can not get in a 2005 corvette , tried the key lock in the rear for the hatch and that does not work. Did not lock the car ,but the battery is stone dead that it is not allowing the door handles to work. Anyone out there that can help me?

Much Thanks

If the battery or electrical system fails there is a hidden lock under the rear of the car where a key can be used to open the hatch. Inside are two manual pull cables that open the driver's door and fuel filler door.

If I had to guess why your battery is dead, I would say you have a 6 speed manual and forgot to put it in Reverse after shutting down the car as instructed in the owner's manual.

This should let you inside, so you can re-charge the battery.

The only solution you have left is to jack up the car and attach jumpers. The POS goes to the hot side of the starter, the NEG to the frame. This will provide enough juice for the FOB to work.

No. It is a normal, mechanical tumbler lock. The problem is that MANY C6's have reported that lock mechanism is faulty.

I have read so many threads of a dead battery AND the defective lock that I can recite the solution in my sleep.

Good luck.

Btw, who's car are you stealing???? You own a C5.

I tried mine and it worked fine but I did notice something. The first time I tried turning the key nothing happened.... Tried again but this time I turned it a little harder and Voila, overcame a detent and the trunk opened. I might humbly suggest that you try turning the key a little harder. It appears that there might be some sort of detent in the tumbler mechanism.

Can't hurt to try!

push down on the deck lid when you try to turn the key to release the tension on the lock

Just a heads up but more than one person has gotten the wrong key for the car. It is not a bad idea to try yours, in case you have not done so, to make sure you can open your hatch in a dead battery situation. Be ready to turn off the alarm when you use the key to open the hatch on a vehicle with juice if its shut down and locked.
