Two High mileage C5, advice to get to 400 hp

Kinda a Noob post but i thought i would ask the advice of the experts.

My 99 C5 has about 97k miles on it. Mods right now are as follow in the preformance department.

Borla exhaust
High flow air duct
short throw

My friend has a 2000 C5 with about the same mileage,, we both want to atleast compete with the C6 vettes, at around 400hp rear wheel. His mods are just Borla exhaust.

My question is basically heads and cam q. My goal is not to go radical, becuase of the high mileage. (When motor blows i will go with forged short block) But i would like to maybe freshing up the top end.

What heads and cam combo would put me at around 400hp ? Might even achieve that with just a cam ? and a tune ?

At the same time , im going to add LG's and mids, with high flow cats. And replace my crank pully with a underdrive one. MAF, and vram.

Im not really big on spending allmost a grand for a intake with the minimal hp gains you get from it.

So spending the least possible, what would you guys recommend. This car used to be my weekend toy. But now it has moved up to daily driver, and my SRT-10 Ram is my weapon of choice, with major mods comming to that over time.

Thats why im trying to spend as little as possible and just bump up the hp to around 400. With a nice exhaust sound note, and i will be happy.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like you're going to have some fun. I'm not one of the experts, they'll be here shortly (or sneak in a post before me like the usually do )

I know of a performance package for the C5 made by SLP that claims to give you 427hp (not rwhp) called the ZL7. Looks to sell for around 5k for the whole thing. It'll replace nearly everything you already have though.

400whp will cost at least $4500 for the parts alone. AFR 205 heads, MTI G1 cam or equal, LG long tubes, tune. You will also want a Valve train upgrade (lifters, springs [ if they don't come with the heads] and new pushrods). Lets not forget the new injectors

400 rwhp is easily done with AFR 205's, a 224 cam, long tube headers and the usual basic boltons (air filter and what not).

you dont need heads to make 400 whp ,.. just get your basic bolt ons,. Headers, catback, intake, intake manifold (LS6 or Fast) air bridge, Comp 921 or 918 Valvetrain kit, 160 stat, Underdrive pulley and a G5X3 or MS3/MS4. your car should and will make atleast 420 with stock heads,.. and this will cost you far less then slapping heads on it. Stock heads are good to 600+ horsepower, i know i live it.
