Hello guys... are there any good sources for LED taillights? I have been looking all over the place and cannot find anything for a C3. Suggestions?

There are replacement bulbs that use LEDs rather than filaments.
These would replace the bulb with no modifications.
Here are some at Digikey.com ... various colors, but white is brightest.

On the other side, I have not seen any replacement assemblies for the
C3 taillights. I have seen some of the generic truck rear lights modified
into the C3 rear .... some cutting required.

I have toyed with the idea of making some drop-in circuit boards that would
provide a surface of LED .... maybe even the shape of a Chevy bowtie, etc.
... really never saw too much interest to move forward with it.

I know a place where there is a guy that is a specialist on this modification. He's a legend in his own mind and pretty much thinks he knows everything about everything. Some folks where he hangs out also believe that's true.
Go here and ask about LED tail lights. Trust me...you'll get a response for sure:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3

I'd give you his name, but we are forbidden to even mention it. I request you NOT tell him I referred you to him. I want NO contact with him at all. Just ask and he'll respond. You'll know him by his outrageous post count.

LED taillights

Sounds like I stepped into an abyss of crap! Well.. I think I have googled myself to death. If I have to I might have to take a set of C4 modified tailights to go in. They have the circut boards that control the LEDs. What I really want is not a single LED in the bulb replacement type mod, but one where the the entire circle of the lense has LED's in it... they are very bright and I have seen them on current new cars. Dakota Digital Instruments makes them for a C2 I think. BTW.. they have great cutsom electronic guages for the C#.

Seriously Bill, go to the website I suggested and ask there. You will be quickly directed to the grand poobutt of LED tail lights.
If LED is what you want, he can fix you up. But the price is NOT going to be cheap.

Working hard for my 47, 587th post
Here is a couple places to look for the lights your looking for
http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html
http://spiderlite.com/

I am probably going to go with the LEDs on my gauges and probably running lights and possibly the tail/Brake lights too. But the spider lights are a bit too pricy for my taste, $200 is over the top even for me.
But, there is the info you need

Their primary thing is motorcycle, but they DO have great customer service and a large assorment of stuff. And they can custom build too.

Horsepower is like potato chips. If you have 300, you want 500. If you have 500, you want 800. One is never enough.

YOU freeking guys....you all just gave me a great idea....

IF you look at my site/maybe here posted too, you see I have '68 olds tail lights in the back ass from previous owner just 2 bulbs each...forget the count....think they are both 1157s.....yeh, have to be, really....
no backups, they are down lower tucked in the bumpers....

now.....I have a sequential counter/divider that lights red LED on my dash, in the firing order pattern.....runs off tach pulse, but has NO relationship to the actual firing order, just the pattern of layout....it's a one to one type thing....

SO, If I take a wiring harness from that display....all transistor drive,....so that's 8 wires....maybe 9....depending, on the I forgets.....

make a small driver board to sequence a display of 8 bright white LEDs....4 across bottom, 4 across top...so when I step on the pedal, the LEDs in the rear make a clockwise pattern on one side, and counter clockwise on the other....if the engine is slow enough....it would look crazy as hell....

thing is, they need be BRIGHT and when brakes are applied they ALL light up...easy done though a back bias diode....

any comments, keep the ricer crap outta it....for a car like MINE, I think it would be cool as a moose....

....

Rice or not, that would look pretty cool. Any reason that you couldn't do it in a circular pattern? Might look odd in a rectangular one.
