LS3 power adders-proven suggestions

I have a 08 Atomic orange LS3 Paddle shifted automatic with magna select ride control. The car is currently at SLP getting Z06 headers, X pipe, Bassani cat back exhaust, Cold air induction, diablo programmer, 1.85 rockers spings and retainers. I let SLP use my car for a test car in return for some comp patrs, installation and dyno pulls. I will be picking it up in about 2 weeks.
I also have a 99 procharged C5 w/503 RWHP. Its a great car Im just not crazy about the tourqe curve. I want to make the C6 non- super charged or turbo charged and still get about 450 RWHP with high tourqe at low RPM. Anyone with a proven suggestion / combo would be very helpful. I know the LS3 heads flow great and are very new so I hate to change them with out some great advantages. Im looking for some help from people with knowledge.

Thank You

Gary C. Block

I think that very soon you will see an intake that is designed specifically to address the needs of the LS3 heads - - the car does not respond as quickly as the LS2 at present but this will not be for long.

Damn good heads for a factory head too!!

like he said they are good heads, you should be close to your numbers with the mods youve done, depending on your tune, but if you still want some more throw a good cam in there and that will do it

The cam will be my next step if I cant hit the 450 mark any other way. Have you heard of anyone making cams for the LS3, Im told the heads should be good for what Im looking for.

Iv also got a procharged C5 with 503 RWHP. Its a great toy but with that much grunt it hard to keep traction. At 30MPH if its in first gear and you push it to the mate the tire just start smoken. Looks great but tires cost plus Your not pickin up speed.
Good luck when you hit 500 please let me know how you got there.

Weesa,

I get a sick feeling in my gut just thinking about the effect of 500 rwhp on the trans and differential - - - to be honest, I am a bit concerned about this with 75 less HP as I am exceeding the limits of the drive train. Just a thought.

My C5 has 503 RWHP and the only thing I did to the rear is bolt on a Dyno Tech differential strut. It keeps the differential from Snapping off the tourqe tube. I think it cost me approx $500 and about 4 hours to install. Iv had the car done this way for about 2 years and over 8000 miles with out issue. I was told I didnt even need the strut unless I was going to put drag radials on which I never did but I did not want to take a chance. I would hope the C6 diff is at least as good if not better than the C5. I have not heard of issues with the C6 rears or trans has anyone else ?
I drive my cars like I stole um, so I have pushed the C5 to the limit more than a couple times without issue.

Shark,

I am led to believe the C5 had a stronger differential. Who knows? I can tell you this: many have blown the GetRAG all to hell from wheel hop in a C6.

At least the Strange double adjustable shocks gets rid of this effect. Real tires help a bunch too.

I have never heard of a differential strut, I have seen the tranny cage/brace that does not work very well but not the strut.

Where did you find this? Thanks!!

The web site is http://www.dynotech-eng.com/dte_c5_diff_strut.htm
I have not heard of the wheel hop issues with the C6. Iv only put 200 Miles on mine. I can tell you that even after the strut was installed I took the C5 to the track once and tried to launch it at the tree. Its a 6 speed stick and I am no drag racer. I left the line the first time the tires were spinning so fast there was alot of wheel hop. Scared the crap out of me. The second and last time I left the line easier red lined first shifted into second hard, The tires started spinning at 50 MPH and the car started to veir left and I let off. That was it for me and the C5 at the track. I was running Cooper Tires, Im sure drag radials would have helped.

The March issue of Corvette Magazine by Ross Periodicals has an article, "Performance by the Numbers", detailing engine mods and resultant torque and HP gains for an '07 Z06.

The 05 c6 rear is crap!, 06 and up is better, but the wheelhop is what kills rears imo. Since i've cammed my car, I have been in close consult with my trusted tuner LG motorsports and the fix is to swap the trans/rear end as a unit on the 05 cars (like mine). The hit from the clutch coupled with the stiff sidewalls of the runflats is a sure rear killer. Tho-we do have members on the other forum getting some pretty impressive 60' times and all on 05 cases, with DR's.

It is what I call the 05 C6 tax. I had LG replace the crappy clutch with a RPS unit and I love how it works-flawless. now it's the rear ends turn to get upgraded. Bottom line is if you're gonna put sticky tires on and you have an 05-it's not IF it will blow, but WHEN. The DTE strut will save your trans when the case lets go, that's about it. Something to do with the mount flange being hollow on the 05's, or some sh!t.

Olddog,

I was considering some QA1 adjustable shocks, I see you run Strange adjustables, have you had good luck with them cutting out the wheelhop? If so, wheres the best place to buy and how much$?

Thanks in advance

Buffcoat,

Call Dimitri at Strange Engineering and tell him you want the same double adjustable shocks he did for St. Barsabas, Inc. or maybe I sent them to my self: John in Hanover, PA.

I found a compression of 4 and a rebound of 7 is great for overall driving and it you are running the car at the track use a compression of 1 and a rebound of 9.

They are about $700 for the pair - - I have had their coil overs on the rear of the drag car for about four years with NO problems and put 20K on them in the 05.

Oldog is right...When we attended the C5Bash, they discussed the LS3. Holy cow, there is a lot of ZO6 technology in that engine...which is why we finally bought one, what a bargain...
