Since I left the job on June 28th, we've:
Sold our house in northwest Illinois
Took a short Corvette adventure getting from NW Illinois to NE Georgia
Stopped by the NCM
Took the Monday after I left my job to just kind of do nothing
Started organizing the garage in my new house
Made a spot for the C6 in the new garage
Had a nice 4th of July cookout
Took a trip to south Georgia to start settling my dad's estate (he died unexpectedly in April)
Now spending time with the grandchildren. This marks the first time they've been to our house and I haven't been spending the day working!
So I'm busier than ever - and I absolutely don't miss my old job!

Congrats Steven. I too had about the same dream. Work hard, retire early at 55. At 40 I was VP of a national company but at 49 I had enough of that life/work schedule. Then started as a manager for MRO buyers for an international company. It was about 1/2 the salary but stress levels went to ZERO! I did that for 10 years then retired at 60. That was 9 years ago and I still haven't gotten to the end of the honey do list or cleaned out the garage
Just make sure you have something to do, if you don't have a hobby start one

But I'm hoping that will change - but that depends on the Honey-Do list that Annie gives me!

I retired seven years ago and was worked so hard that I had to find a job just to get some rest. I'm working again, on my terms, at 73 and loving it. The house got too small after about a year.

congrats....
be aware.!!
now everyone in the family thinks your free to run errands
and do their projects and do their repair work..
I was forced to retire when I fell on a job busted an ankle and knee required two major surgeries, lots of steel pins etc..
a couple years of rehab.... but (your retired, why not help paint, or help repair my car, or help me move, or a dozen other things comes up regularly)

New Adventures for Me!
At long last, a dream I've had since - well, since a long time ago - has finally come true!
Since I got my engineering degree in 1984, I've been employed by three major food companies, then spent nearly 26 years working for Honeywell. The last 20 years with Honeywell were spent running a test lab for aerospace and aviation products.
Well, Friday, 28 June, that career came to an end.
I walked away on my own terms and on my own timeline.
My original goal was to leave corporate America at 55. My plan took just a bit longer, and I was able to leave at 60.
For the first time in decades, I woke up this morning and DID NOT have to go to work! Nor am I on vacation - now I'm retired!
We also relocated from northwestern Illinois to northeastern Georgia (just outside of Athens). We're really looking forward to being able to drive the Grand Sport 12 months out of the year! We have lots of things we want to see and do, and we started our retirement adventure by stopping by the NCM on our way from Freeport to Athens. It wasn't the first time we'd been to the NCM, but it was great!
I've been pretty busy the last several months, which is why I haven't been on the forum much. But I'm hoping that will change - but that depends on the Honey-Do list that Annie gives me!
