I think you should talk him back into getting the Cobra, I hate to say it but a slightly modded Cobra will kill a slightly modded SS (excluding nos).

Just my opinion tho

MK#27 why don't you put this off till u get the C6 Z06 and thenu can take him off the line mid-range top-end and handle better while the whole time looking a lot better than he could ever look

ssrogers Just thought I would say I started this thread on 10-21-2004. Since then Chris has come back to the Chevy world. He is back to wanting a LS1 Camaro SS. I guess me and another friend made fun of him too much for wanting a Ford.

Anyway, Now both of them are looking at trying to take down my C6 Z06. Chris wants to mod the SS enough to take me in a straight line and Heath wants to turn his Chevelle into enough of a G-machine to be able to not only out accelerate but to also try to out handle me.

Yeah the old "five oh;s" wernt too impressive from the factory. Those old truck heads really don't flow at all... With a good set of heads you can see gains of 70hp
Everything was basically very well, "conservative" on those cars. The old fox's were good and light and theyre very cheap to mod. Very.
Again, they cant go through the twisties but it doesn't take much to make them move. But lots of people just have exhaust and maybe gears done to theirs and stay in the 14 second 1320 bracket.

I think the STS felt faster to me too stock vs stock. I want a C6 and I can buy one at the employee price but my wife is the road block on that.
Did it have the slotted hood, looks kind of like two stripes sunken into the hood going from about 1' from the front of the hood to about the windshield.
And have the Ovalish looking foglight area?
If not then it was most likely an 01 or 99 Cobra, both arnt really anything to brag about.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. I do love vettes, just sticking up for the minority here(if any, besides me of course)

The Cobra is factory with 390hp, I think. Now, I know that sometimes hp isn't everything. So, how would we compare in acceleration and handling. Keep in mind that Cobras have independent rear suspension and I think they weigh a little bit more. He plans on a pully upgrade, so, what do you think? Is he going to walk all over me?

Edit: Yep, He just told me they have a curb weight of 3665.
Get the C5 a T-Rex v2 @Thunder Racing.

cadillac guy Me and RSCAr are talking about the Mustang GT. What year was the Cobra you raced becaused only the 03 and newer models were supercharged. Anyway a Cobra stock is no match for a Z06 anyway.

RSCAR Ok , is the Mustang in question one that has a cobra insignia on the side of the front fender and the letters SVT on the back? Cause one of those fooled with me at a light today, I let him get out about 4 car lengths on me then floored it for a few seconds in 2nd. The vete launched and was immediately even, I dumped 3rd and got out. This guy stayed on it, what a joke. I said to myself, didn't he see what just happened? Maybe he didn't want to look at me, whatever, this can't be the car being talked about is it?

RSCAR Naw, kickin' thier butts with a Caddy is just plain fun. I have a beautiful DTS also. It just dosn't feel as fast as the STS. All thats over now as the Z06 was delivered yesterday. Couldn't tell too much cause it we rainy, but today was dry and all I can say is ''Oh My"
03-21-2005 06:45 PM
cadillac guy No he is talking about the Cobra not the GT....I love ripping those up in my Northstar DTS what easy prey!
I thought I was the only one that enjoyed doing that.

No..not at all . Maybe 2 or 3 hp at WOT.

Roadfrog RSCAR, you are a man of wisdom, perspective, and likely with a dose of treachery.

Yes, we know how to street race but there isn't really anything out there worth wasting fuel on right now. Besides, everytime I say that I've street raced, it's been a lie, LOL.
03-14-2005 08:25 PM
RSCAR I'm an old street racer from the 60's, 427SS Impala(67) HO GTO(68) 429 Cobra Jet Boss (70). They all ran, espically the Ford. In those days any high 13sec car could beat anybody if you could drive.

Roadfrog here knows what he's doing. 20 mph roll, rip 2nd gear and wind it up, slam 3rd for a few seconds and get out of it. If he's closing, get out sooner.

Other than that, best I can tell ya is to go on 2

Tell me these Mustangs are not the 5.0's that I eat up with my Northstar Seville STS are they. Can't be right?

8 more days till my Z06 get delivered, I'll be good . I promise, I promise. This will be funny, just to give all you young men a clue, I got my first 'Vette new in '65(327, 300hp, Nassau Blue drop top. I wonder if I'm the "Geezer" of the post?

Roadfrog Far out man! This is really serious! My Corvette is just another toy in my toy box. I guess toy engineers designed it..... hardy har har, LOL!! Whatdaya think bird?

I could not disagree more. Were not screwed if the vettes engineering is the best in GM,and I'm not saying it is or it isn't.However,I hope people would not make that assumption based on things that aren't really pertinent to this discussion such as the much criticized interior of the c5 vette.Yes it uses some cheap plastic pieces that have no buisness on a vehicle of this caliber, but this is not really what I would call engineering, more the cosmetic side of the engineering. What I really mean is when you see a pic of a vette with the body removed, you can really see the engineering of the car.The way the frame is constructed, the way the suspension is made, the whole layout of the car. This is fine engineering. In this respect I think the vette is truely one of the best engineered cars in the world. Now all they have to do is get the interiors up to speed like cadillac.Cadillac also has some of the finest engineering in the world, but now also has the interior quality of a fine german engineered car.If you don't think so,just go take a look at the new caddy's.I looked at the interior of the cts-v and was blown away.I was really suprised at quality look and feel of it.I thought I was looking at a benz or beemer it was so nice! Now all they have to do is apply this interior treatment to the vette, and you would never be able to say that the corvettes engineering is inferior to anything. After all caddy and chevy are both part of GM and you don't think cadillac has some secret technology that chevy doesn't know about do you? I think it's just a choice GM made to keep the cost of the vette down and concentrate on what vette drivers really want. PERFORMANCE!!! YEAH BABY. TAKE THAT!!
