I only want to retard the cam 7 degrees if I can do it at a higher rpm and also advance the cam by 8 degrees down low for a real good idle and down low power. What that might look like is I would take a timing cover, cam phaser, hardware, and electrical pigtails off of a L99 motor out of a camaro or something get the cam with the grinds I want for the l99 setup and bolt all that up to the front of my LSX motor before working my controller magic.
But again, it kills me to work for free and all of that sounds like a lot of work.
It's a full day or 2 on a LS C5 Corvette working clean sanitary.
Done it for Brandon in his race shop.
PTVOC Clearance 6.0 L V8 with hyper cast piston flat top and 230 @ .050 " spec cam with L92 LS3 heads I recall was right on limit of safe.
.530 lift with rockers.
I had .080" intake and .130" Exhaust PTVOC Clearances.
Clay checked. Sliced in 1/2 with a razor blade.
Gave me 1 hour shop time got my checks done.
Got in an argument that day again.
