Thumbs down! Brutal! 0-60 MPH in 3.9 seconds.

In case you missed it in the other thread...

0-60 MPH in 3.9 seconds.

1/4 mile 12.6 @ 115mph

Top speed 186 MPH!

GM stated this today during an Chevrolet IDL broadcast for the 2005 Corvette.

Thanks to Rick Conti for giving us the SCOOP!

Claimed 3.9 seconds like with the C5 Z06?

or

ACTUAL 3.9 seconds?

(Yes, I'm still bitter...)

Optimists think the glass is half full.
Pessimists think the glass is half empty.
Engineers realize it's twice as big as it needs to be.

Isent the C5 185MPH? Whats the big deal? 186 is sweet n all but only a VERY VERY small improvment. Not sure why everyone is trippin out over it.

I think the C5's top speed is 175 MPH, or somewhere around that number.

An 02+ Z06 will definitely do 0-60 in less than 4.0 seconds. But it does take a very good driver, with a lot of seat time, who has learned to

(1) launch the car at the right "launch rpm" with little wheel spin and not much clutch slip and

(2) shift very fast to 2d without much wheel spin.

Doing all that is hard for an "average driver." That doesn't mean it can't be done.

But many, many Z06 owners have beat the Chevy spec for the car in the quarter mile (12.4 @ 116), where certified timing equipment is accessible to anyone. And they have done so bone-stock on stock tires. So it's reasonable to conclude that on the way to beating the Chevy spec in the quarter, such drivers are also beating the Chevy spec for 0-60 of 3.9 seconds.

So, in my view anyway, Chevy's spec for C6 acceleration by various models are reliable and owners who are very good drivers will surpass the spec times.

That doesn't include the car mags, whose drivers NEVER get the seat time or practice required to master severely traction-limited cars.

I've seen a bone stock Z06 run a 12.3 in the 1/4, and the driver was good, but he was no Pro.

I bet when you break in the motor, you will see very low 12's on the C6. I wish I could afford one.

I don't do any measurements for Z06's... I don't need to but wish I had one to test. But SEVERAL magazines and TV shows have... the best they ever got was a 4.2 but most of them got 4.5's... and they have professional drivers.
