Power steering pump bad?

Engine has not been run in 2 years. I know the PO demo'd the engine with no fluid in the power steering a few imes.
I know if you run an in use pump with low fluid it goes bad. Same true of a never filled pump?
Im planning on getting this up and running in the spring. Do people demo motors with no power steering fluid in the pump all the time? Am I worried about nothing?

Or should I replace the pump before I button everything up and run it?

Depending on how long it was run, it might be bad...but finish everything and see what happens. The seals may leak, but you can rebuild the pump without getting an entirely new one. It's not terribly hard to swap out the pump after everything is back together anyway, so why spend money that you don't have to?

"Bella" - 2002 Z06 - Carrying on family tradition of Corvette ownership.

"Alexa" - 1985 Z51 - In memory of the last Corvette Dad owned. Gone but never forgotten.

"Desiree" - 1977 - Wife's car, with an attitude problem.

makes sense.Just rather replace it before getting everything else in if the general consensus is its toast. Its been a long time since I had a sbc, but I seem to remember the pump was kind of delicate that way.

Does the pump rotate easily, can you spin the pulley by hand?
If so I'd say give it a shot. Easy to swap out if bad, as stated above.
