yes, .999...=1 is true, hopefully the doubters have not followed us over to DC.

There are lots of internet resources confirming this. Just like 3/3 is a representation of 1, .999... is a representation of 1.

how is .999999999999=1? It is infinitely close to 1, but never equal. Just because our "whole number" oriented minds can't get around this fact doesn't mean its not true.

Wrong.

.999... = 1. There's no question about it. It's not "infinitely close." It IS 1.

I mean if .999999999 were 1, .9999999999 wouldn't be .9999999999, it would be called 1.

Equal or not...I'll just keep using 1. It's easier to type.

This is too funny

Does 1.000000000 = .999999999? Let me think

Let's use the mass of the earth to demonstrate.

6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons x 1.000000000 =
6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons

6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons x .999999999 =
6,599,999,993,400,000,000,000 tons

Only a couple of tons (6,600,000,000,000) difference

Look they are equal

Get real

Just do the math. They are not equal. Simplest of all is subtract .999999999999 from 1 the answer is not zero but .000000000001??

Is it really this hard for you to understand?

I'd have to agree with midnite on this one. If you are typing it and rounding is OK then yeah, use 1. But for mathematical reasons .9999999999 doesn't = 1. No way. We wouldn't have decimals like that if rounding was the way to go on anything as would sig figs banish to he!!.

Don't get me wrong rounding is great. That's how I saved over 1400 bucks on my Z. Originally listed at 27,900 and he was going to give me 9,500 for my stang. Got 10k for the stang and because he wasn't going to do the math for the taxes it became 27 for the Z. -900 - 500 = -1400. Woohoo. Yes I know he didn't round up, never said he did, lol.

Josh

I have to admit it has been a lot more livelier over here in BSL and Kill sections. The only problem is you guys forgot about posting up in the Babes section. It's a trifecta. GET ON IT, lol
