I am a construction project manager.

I do the bidding on the projects, hire/fire, payroll, peacekeeper, major bs-er, ordering of product, accounts receivable, accounts payables, party planner and Mom to most of the workers!

I can make my own hours as long as I get the job done.

Its not always easy but I have fun at what I do and the guys love the boss!!

See, this is why I HATE these threads. Invariably, someone posts "I work in IT"...as if their job is so important that we all know what "IT" is...like that stupid commercial where everything it "IT". Well, we don't care! Everyone thinks their job is "IT", you know, where "IT's" at...cool, great. Can't you be specific? Are you afraid of what we'll think?

BTW, I'm a patent lawyer in the chemical and mechanical fields.

I'm a relationship manager for a huge networking company (shouldn't be too hard to figure it out) based out of CA. I currently support federal government customers across the world.

Actually looking to change roles here in the next 30-60 days...I was hands on with technology before I came into the role I refer to as a "spreadsheet pusher," so I need some more excitement. Looking at moving into engineering, and going to the private sector, as I don't have the patience needed to deal with the .govies. I plan on remaining with my current company, just hoping to be able to move and support an ISP again, or companies like Google/Yahoo!/etc as I LOVE big networks.

In my off time I dream up ways to come up with new ways to make money...I'm currently looking for a programmer to help me develop a database web app to act as sort of a match.com/classmates.com base, but have it used for gamers. I've got several people behind me with it, but we're not at the point where we have the "funds" to pay for services of others. And the one and only programmer I know is someone I'm not willing to share the idea with for the fear that he would steal the business plan.

Also considering figuring out a way to employ bored college students for a US based power leveling service for games...still trying to figure out how I would get ahead on that one tho...the figures just aren't working out at this time...

I own a specialty running store here in Albuquerque, ABQ Running Shop. We basically have the latest and greatest running gear, and fit people in shoes to help them run injury free. My family has owned a similar store in Tucson for over 25 years, so we are just an extension of that.

Leggit and Platte, the worlds largest producer of bed springs is in your back yard, and probably the only employer of any size within 200 miles of Joplin.

Wow, you haven't been to Joplin in a looooong time, have you?

If that was true, it may have been only true in the late '70's through mid-80's.

Our biggest employers are the medical centers, followed by the trucking industry I guess, and tons of manufacturing including military contractors, places like LaBarge, Eagle Picher, F.A.G. Bearings, 150+ restaurants, retail.

However I'm self-employed and happlily so. I could live anywhere in the USA due to the nature of my work (as long as I have high speed interweb), and may move in the future. The cost of living here is really nice though.

Joplin has something like 225,000 population during the daytime. Our actual population is about 60,000 officially, but we draw from all the surrounding communities, most of which are bedroom communities. It's the biggest town for 60+ miles. And there are a lot of big employers not just in Joplin but Springfield (60 miles away, third largest city in Missouri), Tusla (100 miles away), and of course Kansas City (160 miles away).
