The 87's received a revised input drum - turbine input shaft assembly along with Revised 3-4 clutch steels & frictions.
Larger with more surface friction area in square inches.
Higher load carrying capacity.
A revised input sprag assembly.
Had all aluminum clutch apply pistons.
The front oil pump was all new and greatly improved.
Steady line pressure rise & TCC valve failures were non existent.
An auxilary valve body was added for silky smooth garage shifts from Park to drive to reverse.
All aluminum 1-2 , 3-4, & axillary valvebody accumaltor pistons used. Not plastic like later 4L60E's in many applications that failed prematurely cracked apart.
I worked on the South side of Chicago next to the Ford plant you work at now Big D.
Drove my Red 87 C4 roadster daily.
All black around Blue Island as you know too.
Never once got shot at or held up at gun point.
One day a Donk Cadillac pulled up next to me.
Brothers wall to wall inside.
They rolled their windows down.
Instead of shooting at me...
They yelled out one of them....HEY MICHAEL JORDAN HAD A CORVETTE JUST LIKE YOURS MAN !!!
WHAT YEAR IS YOUR VETTE ?
HIS WAS A 87 TOO.
THE TOP WAS DOWN AND I SMILED AND WAVED HIGH.
LIGHT TURN GREEN & STOMPED ON THE GAS AND BURNT RUBBER ACROSS THE INTERSECTION FOR THE BROTHERS.
NONE EVER GAVE ME A BIT OF TROUBLE.
