Which car?

Since I've retired I've been a little bored. A friend of mine needs some help delivering meds to veterans and it'll be about 2-3000 miles a week for a while. Since my vehicles are a 1995 Impala SS, a 1995 Vette and a 1989 Silverado, I'll need a vehicle for this endeavor.

I don't like little cars and am a big fan of reliability. I've found a 2004 Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8 liter engine and 100,000 miles. Is that know to be fairly reliable. I don't necessarily like overhead cams because of the timing belt issues. I do like small block Chevy's. Is the Buick 3.8 about like a SBC for reliability? I need something that gets close to 30 MPG because of the distances and pay involved.

In the real world will the Monte Carlo fit the bill? Thanks Guys. ---Gunny---

The only small block Chevy powered car that will get you
30 mpg is C5 or C6 Corvette .

Personally, I think the Buick 3.8 V-6(which is what is in that Monte Carlo) is the all time third best engine made by GM. One and two being the LS and small block respectively.

My only caveat about buying this car is the 100,000 miles. If it has been treated well no biggie, if abused big trouble. Check for leaks, oil condition when looking it over, and the car should have plenty of pick up N/A 3.8s make about 220ft-lbs of peak torque on a table top flat torque curve.

So, pretty much its 3/4's of a small block Chevy. That would be a good thing. Carfax has listed oil changes every 3-4000 miles since 2006 and it's only had one owner and no accidents. I've got the poor old dealer beat down to $5400. I guess I'll run it down to my friends garage tomorrow and put it on a lift and check 'er out.

2004 Black Monte Carlo....I'll feel like Dale Junior running around. Too bad the wrong wheels are driving it. Oh well. Thanks for the info.

This one sounds pretty good, go for it

Oh, the Chevy 4.3L V-6 is the one that is 3/4 of a Small block, it is almost literally a 350 with two cylinders sawn off

Nothing at all and I will be driving it some.I'll be carrying totes of medications and some pretty toxic stuff and the Vette's a Vert. I think I'll have room for a tote under the top in the spring.

My Vette in the snow will not move. It can't. I've got summer tires on her 295 wide. When it snows they're skis.
