Depends on what it has wrong with it. In some cases, it's software, especially things like commercial antivirus software, but if it's spyware/virus related, it can take way more time to track down than it takes to reinstall Windows, lol. And most people don't really have anything important enough on their computer to keep a clean install from being an option. It's an option that even someone who isn't particularly computer literate can accomplish in about an hour, and be guaranteed to have a working computer. It's a last-resort kind of option, but it will accomplish the task at hand-the computer will be just as fast as it was the day they got it when it's done.

If they weigh 2 tons each, they sorta defeat the purpose.

The only problem with a complete reinstall is most users don't have their installation or recovery CD/DVD's and if they did have the installation CD/DVD, having a user install all of the necessary drivers would be a nightmare.

Actually it's not hard at all on a Dell, they are all on Dell's support website. But you'll notice I did originally say "if you have the recovery disc."

Yea, if you can figure out which driver matches your exact hardware. Sometimes it's a crap shoot on Dell's site because a model will have multiple configurations. That's always a fun experience.

....even going to Microsoft for their wireless dual keyboard &
mouse driver was a crap out the other day, got this Chinese
version of the drivers, didn't know it until I went to change
some options and everything was in Chinese and that was
straight from Mircosoft......

....finally I found the original disc and re-installed it....
