Printed LS3 Engine
Are there any other automotive enthusiast/electronic hobbyists out there with a 3d printer? Check this out:
I am going to make a run of these I think. Maybe 3-5 of them to pass out to those that are the most special to me in my career. If any other printer owners out there might be interested, the files can all be downloaded from thingiverse right here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1911808
It looks legit and works and will make a nice display piece on anyone's desk. There are even some longtubes and a flywheel I can print to complete the assembly.

There is a pre assembled hardware kit for this that saves a lot of time hunting individual non printable parts and is comparable in price. It is here: https://www.makerrx.com/collections/.../products/mrx1
The engine stand kit is here: https://www.makerrx.com/collections/.../products/mrx4

The really awesome part about this is that is bolts together like the real thing. No glue. And so once I have it together I can change printer nozzles to smaller diameters for finer resolution and get different type and color filaments and I can chase upgrades and improvements and swap parts at will and just see how sweet I can make these things over time.

Wow this block takes days to print. It was gonna take 2 days and 18 hours to print out but I changed the layer height from .2mm to .3mm and it shaved a whole day off the print tine. I am currently 16hrs into printing and 34% complete..
...then we will work on the head castings.

Well that took forever. Or 40 hours, 18 minutes, and 40 seconds of non stop printing to print out the LS3 engine block. At least it came out nice..
Next I need to work on the cylinder heads before printing out the internals.

If you took the picture at the right angle you could believe that's a real block.

I think it is somewhere around 1/5 scale. Everything looks just like the real part. I have also printed out the main caps..
And rear, valley, and timing covers..
