Quadrajet Mystery / History

You see Q Jet and Quadrajet and you see them identified as:

GM Quadrajet

Rochestor Quadrajet

Edelbrock Quadrajet

You can buy a new Edelbrock Quadrajet today.

You can only buy a rebuilt Rochestor Quadrajet today.

Did Edelbrock buy a company named Rochestor?

Any clues will be appreciated.

GM and Rochester quadrajets (Q-Jet) are one in the same. Rochester manufactured the carbs for GM. A few years after GM went the fuel injection route, Rochester stopped sourcing Q-jets. In the mid 90's, Edelbrock purchased the original Q-Jet design from Rochester, made a few design improvements, and put them back on the aftermarket. That's why today you can still buy a new Edelbrock Q-jet, but only used and re-built original Rochester castings

The reason some people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....
