Thoughts about people protesting against flying a flag

Thoughts by Ivan.

So the way I see it. To be fair and equal for every one the only flags that should fly over American soil, are the American flag, and the states flag period. To fly any other flag should be treated by law as treason. No gay pride flags, no black pride flag, no hells angels flag, or any other group who think they are special. That way the rest of use will not be marked as a racist or a bigot, Myself I don't care what flag you fly. But when you start making laws against a certain flag. I only see it going one direction. And in that direction the US FLAG does not come out on top. I am a peaceful man. But I took an oath when I joined the US Navy some 50 years ago that I would defend this country against all enemy's and that oath has no expiration date. So every one that has problems with my country or it's history should just move on.

I agree, but that flag isn't part of United States history. It's part of Confederate States history. You didn't take an oath to that. Time for it to be where it belongs - in the history books and museums.

I think you can fly any flag you want. I just don't think the government can.

I know many people who fly the confederate flag are not bigots. Fly it if you want. Fly a nazi flag if you want. Just be aware of what it says about you, and any possible response from other individuals. I'm saying that especially in the case of the nazi flag.

I fly my US flag all the time. It only comes down when there's a bad storm that could rip it away. Under the US flag, I fly my Irish flag on St Patrick's day and Irish independence day, and my Slovak flag on 3-4 Slovak holidays a year. I would be pissed if I saw my government building with any flag other than the US flag or state flag.

They are the part of the US government, stick to the US flag.

You a Slovak? My Mother came here from Czechoslovakia in 1945 and she met my Dad, a Frenchman, on the boat. They got married and I was born in 1946. I'm just guessing that language wasn't an issue.

Our family still makes the best Holubky and pierogi on the planet.

But that is just it- Confederate States history is US history. You can't pick and choose the parts of history you agree with.

The Civil War is part of U.S. history. But I see the Confederate States as a different country. Their battles with the U.S. Army are part of our history. Their flag is their history. I realize it's nit picking, but that's just the way I see it. I see no place for a Confederate flag any more than I see a place for a British flag on any government building in the U.S., and as a lifelong citizen of one of the Confederate States, I have never seen it and am pretty shocked it was still happening anywhere.

By that definition, any US history that predates the end of the Revolutionary War is not US history....

History is history. But flags belong to a certain country. The Confederate flag never belonged to the United States. British rule is part of our history. By your logic, we should be flying that flag over the capitol since it is part of our history.

During the Civil war, the southern States might want to differ on your opinion of what was their flag (as in now)

It's all about the wrong flag...folks. The Dukes of Hazard looking flag was the Confederate "BATTLE" flag. It was never the flag of the Confederacy. That would have been the Stars and Bars and a couple of others for all you folks that didn't know. The flag that's bringing about all this discussion was, in part, the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia.

Will we be able to display this flag at a battle site such as Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia. The battle flag was absolutely a part of that battle and therefore a part of American history. Should we just close all the Southern monuments? What the Hell do you libs want? Logic and reasoning are in the toilet here. Geesh......it's just a flag and not the flag of the Confederacy at all. If you want to ban something......ban the Stars and Bars. It's the official flag.

Bingo!! We have a winner. I agree it is all US history no matter what, this is where we are now, can't change a damn thing, no need to hide it, but no need to keep it alive either.

Y'all didn't win the war. The South inflicted more casualties than the North by about 30%. We thought you wanted our women. We'd still be fighting over that. When we figured what you really wanted we just gave it to you and quit fighting. T'was just a misunderstanding.
