Some 'rumors'

From a guy named 'stealth' at another forum I frequent. Take it with a grain of salt:

Quote:
GM is back, and with avengence.

As far as all the things I've read lately, and from my uncle, who is close friends with some of the largest figures in the Auto industry, I have some HUGE surprises...

Corvette Z06 SuperSport (aka-Blue Devil)
Most of us know about this high performance machine, and we all know that at least 600 hp is expected. Well, good news for the all of you, expect at least 650. For about 95,000 American, you get 150 more ponies, and a high performance car capable of putting the Enzo to shame. Expect it by Fall 2006.

Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and SS
We all know this too. But I betcha you didn't know that the base version will be the only car for under 22,000 that comes with a V8. No joke. Oh, and expect this car to be here by Summer 2008, and with the SS version pumping at least 480hp into that engine bay.

Cadillac Cien
GM's first mid-engined production car is gonna make a gigantic splash on the aut industry. Expect Bentley Continental GT pricing and Saleen S7 performance when this all Carbon Fibre Supercar pops into showrooms in Summer 2007. Oh, and don't expect a Corvette Engine. It's all Northstar V8.

Cadillac Sixteen Sedan
Not quite as big as the Concept, but big enough to scare the living crap out of a H1 owner, this Caddy will have a V16 engine, a collaberation of two Northstar V8's, and will produce a more healthy 800hp. Expect it to be here by 2009, and for the workers at the Maybach factories to be fuming with new ideas.

Buick Roadmaster
Well... just what we need, another GM coupe and Convertible. This one will have rear wheel drive though, and a possible 420hp when it pops up stateside in 2007. Built on the same Corvette chassis and suspension setup as the XLR, this car will have a huge pricetag, and few will be made.

Hummer H4
Great, another one. Well, not exactly. This time, it won't be so much off road king as cheap off road prince built off of the Equinox chassis. And it'll be more suited to a Younger Crowd, with an obviously lesser amount of money. Expect a concept of this $25,000 pony to be shown at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show.

Now, everything I just told you may sound like a lie, coming from me. It's not. Although I will be honest and tell you that GM isn't completely sure whether they'll produce some of these, especially the Roadmaster. But I can tell you that the Corvette SS, the H4, and the Camaro are coming.

And look out, because they're coming with they're weapons ready.

Z06-SS : who knows.

Camaro Resurrection: concept at 2006 Detroit Auto show, production as early as summer 2008(2009 model) based on interest.(see also AutoWeek)

Cien: , Idoubt it so soon, and the carbon monocoque .

Sixteen: OMFG I hope so, lots of people talking about a new larger than DTS sedan, in the low $100's. I dont think you'll ever see a Northstar V-16 though. The concept was Gen3 V-8 based, and there are v-12's running around in Escalades(2007/8 Escalade V, supposedly) I would expect the car to have a three letter moniker and 12 cylinders... maybe ULS.

Roadmaster: as a roadster?? Uh, huh.

H4: Ive heard this name will be used for the new small truck instead of H3T.

There are some thing that I don’t understand ,, I thought that the V16 engine was 2 ls1 v8 put together. And what I don’t under stand is that if gm don’t put the new V12 north star to the cien. The other thing that I don’t realy see happening is a super corvette for 2006 and the cien 2007 , wow gm is going to compete with it self? 480hp Camaro , wow 20 hp less than a z06 and 80 more hp than a standard c6 corvette is that good thinking?. Car base hummer that is a good trick but it hurt some of other gm vehicles like the equinox and trailblazer. Not to mention that gm is on a budget and don’t have a rwd platform. Interesting but I just don't see them putting the "SS" logo on a vette.

Had a '68 camaro new in college with a 396 and loved the car. Had several oroginal '69 Z-28's over the years and several more '68 big blocks. Sold my last one in '95 when I got tired of mixing octane boosters and worrying about what my forehead would look like with the steering wheel embedded in it. ( no shoulder belts ).

Anyway, planning a C6 purchase this year but for nostalgia sake would like to buy a Camaro SS. My worry is that if they do reanimate the Camaro it may show up plain/ugly IMO like the Australian built so called 'GTO".

The Camaro also depends on high sales volume to make it in the marketplace. But you know what? In a couple of years gas may be 4 or 5 bucks a gallon and that 480 hp would be mightly hungry. Also, since the Camaro appeals to younger buyers....guess what? This ain't 1968 and the insurance companies are not going to insure most guys under 30 to drive any near 500 hp rig much less one called Camaro.

Hmm, my skepticism alert is on red here. What's the base Corvette going to have in it at this point, to make it faster than a 480hp SS Camaro?

Interesting rumors.

Historically the Camaro and the Corvette skew to different demographics (or as Rush would say, "For those of you in Rio Linda" - different people buy them). I wouldn't worry about a 480-HP "Super-Camaro" stealing too many sales from Corvette. They will be very different cars, and the Camaro is intended , obviously, as a Mustang-killer. Advance drawings of possible prototypes show very aggressive retro-styling that should play well to its intended audience.

I think , through friend-of-a-friend contacts in the industry (mostly from parts suppliers, which is usually pretty reliable gossip), that the "SS" Corvette is a definite go, the Camaro likewise, and the "big" Caddy will be a V-12, not a V-16. Also, look for a large RWD car from Chevrolet, Buick and Pontiac VERY soon.

Gas crisis or not, it's a great time to be a car guy.

The base Corvette needn't be faster than the top Camaro. And historically(67-72) wasnt. Deal with it.

I agree, but will current GM politics let that happen again? Alot of Corvette people would be pissed.

There are currently three Cadillac cars with the same or more horsepower than the base C6.

The STS-V was just SAE certified to 469hp!!!!!

This rumor does sound fishy, however some of it is nothing new at all.

"Hummer H4/HX: The HX will be Hummer’s competitor for the Jeep Wrangler. It will be based on the Theta platform and will have a removable top and doors. It will also be the cheapest vehicle in the Hummer line-up, starting in the mid $20,000’s. It may arrive in 2007"

That is nothing new and yes Ive also heard that GM is planning a Hummer pickup based on the Chevy colorado platform and base don the H3T concept. I think that this is a very good move, I mean the Colorado base is $15,000 and the Hummer truck is said to cost $20,000 so thats $5,000 for the name and a cool looking truck. Its not super expensive but yet it has a super high profit margin.

This is the first time that Ive heard of the Buick road Master and being base don the vette platform I highly question I mean the plant can only make 36,000 cars and for 2006 6,000 of them will likely go to the XLR while 2,000-5,000 will go to the C6 Z06. And what 4,000 to this buick Road Master, thats what 21,000 regular C6s a year. It would make the vette more exclusive especially with a higher % compared to the C5 going over seas.

Here are some interesting rumors.

2007

Cadillac BRX: A premium Theta-based small SUV could make its way into Cadillac’s lineup in 2007. A BRX show vehicle will be shown at NAIAS 2006.

Cadillac CTS/CTS-V: An all-new larger CTS is going to arrive in 2007. It will be underpinned by GM’s new Sigma 2 platform and is said to be all-wheel drive capable. Alongside the CTS, will be a new CTS-V which will likely be powered by an upcoming LS3 V8 (and now we have info on the LS3 in another thread Thanks to Corvette Rick)

Chevrolet Camaro: Stay tuned.....things are about to get interesting

Chevrolet SSR: A new SSR could arrive sometime in 2007. Details are unknown

Pontiac Solstice: A GT model of the Solstice is set to arrive in 2007 with a few performance upgrades, including a revised front fascia. It is rumored to be powered by a turbocharged ECOTEC 2.0L. (this motor is to pack about 250BHP)

2008

Buick RWD Sedan: Buick may receive a rear-wheel drive sedan in 2008-9. The new car will be a sibling of the G8/Grand Prix, and likely be built on a version of the current Sigma platform (since Cadillac is working on an updated Sigma II platform for their new products)

Buick Velite: A Sigma-based Velite could make its way into Buick dealers. It would be a sister car to the new Pontiac GTO which will debut it 2008 after a 12-24 month hiatus

Cadillac Kappa: Depending on certain factors, Cadillac may get a premium Kappa-based coupe to compete with BMW (there own version of the Solstice but with Caddy styling, interior, and engines probably)

Chevrolet Impala: The Impala will be due for a redesign sometime in the 2009-10 timeframe. It is generally expected that Chevrolet will end up with a midsized FWD car, and a large FWD car. How the names and platforms will fall at this time, are uncertain. The large RWD car will be a sibling of the G8/Grand Prix, GTO, etc and likely be built on a version of the current Sigma platform (since Cadillac is working on an updated Sigma II platform for their new products)

Pontiac G4: A Kappa-based sport compact is not out of the question yet. This one is tied up in internal GM politics

Pontiac G6: A new G6 will likely arrive a year or so after the Malibu arrives. Like the new Malibu, it will be based on the Epsilon II platform.

Pontiac Grand Prix/G8: The Grand Prix will be redesigned in 2008. It might be renamed ‘G8.’ It will be a RWD platform mate with the new Pontiac GTO. The new car will be a sibling of the GTO and RWD Buick, and likely be built on a version of the current Sigma platform (since Cadillac is working on an updated Sigma II platform for their new products)

Pontiac GTO: Due to a gap in production between when current GTO production ends in Australia, and when new plants will be retooled to make GM North America's new large RWD platform, there will be a 12-24 month hole in GTO production. The new car will be a sibling of the G8/Grand Prix, and likely be built on a version of the current Sigma platform (since Cadillac is working on an updated Sigma II platform for their new products)

Good point about the Holdens . . . seems the Aussies are (and have been) a pretty car-crazy lot all along. There have been some pretty hot Holdens over the years, including some years when there wasn't much exciting coming off USA assembly lines.

Good on ya, mates!
