More N'ring C8 pics from Autoweek

Autoweek also states they do not believe the C8 will debut at the next NAIAS. I hope they are wrong. It would not only break tradition of Corvette new Generation debuts if the C8 did NOT debut at the NAIAS, but would NOT be accepted well if it were to debut offshore like the C7 ZR1. Corvette is AMERICA'S sports car and the world can have a chance to see it and buy it AFTER Americans see it at NAIAS. It would be EXTREMELY damaging among the demographic who will be buying this car...or not buying this car...if the C8 does NOT debut in the USA and the NAIAS dates fit the Bowling Green production schedule well, allowing a reasonable time to accumulate an increase in orders following a NAIAS debut.

It appears that the flying buttresses have large vents at their inside edges, making the buttresses rather large and limiting the center (assumed) flat section over the engine.



It seems obvious that the production lens is not covering the headlight group. Note the C7 horizontal vents directly behind the doors are gone. No need for them with the engine sitting right behind the driver. Note the cooling radiators in the far lower corners of the front fascia. AW assumes these are transmission and oil cooling units. Makes sense as these are far too small to be engine radiators.


Look at the enlarged version of this pic and you will see what looks to be a couple of "slats" of a hood vent at the forward bulge of ther front "hood."

I'm sure it'll sell like crazy, but it's not doing anything for me. I see GM is still using the stick-on chin spoiler.

My initial thought is that having a juiced up six-banger might be a deal breaker for me - if that ends up being the case. to me, a Corvette always came with a V8.

The last thing in the world I would do is buy this thing especially given all the problems G/M is having with the C/7.

Not to worry on that front. The base engine is "near-confirmed" as being a variant of the current LT V8. Historically, the new gen base engine is always higher HP than the prior base and often just under the HP of the prior gen's Z06. I think an LT very close or over 500HP is almost certain.

Of greater concern is that observer lap timing of the C8s at the N'ring says the times are not impressive at this point. Sort of a head-scratcher. Cannot imagine that the base C8 is heavier than the base C7. If it is, seems like they need to re-think the reason. I have been a loud critic of the FT V8 cylinder deactivation feature that caused the largely AL chassis to resonate on the C7 so much that they added 105-200 lbs of anti-resonating parts. All this to get ~.5 to 1 MPG. I cannot help but wonder if the C8 is faced with something similar that is driving another bad decision. I strongly suspect that if we all voted on have the weight or lose the .5 - 1 MPG, we would dump the cyl deactivation, or am I wrong?

The N'ring times could just be reflective of early development. The Michigan Lutzring is not the same as the N'ring or they would take the cars all that way. Setting up the suspension computers algorithms, the impact of getting air on the engine ecm, AND AN ALL NEW DUAL CLUTCH TRANS CONTROL has got to be a challenge. Nothing like the open road testing we have seen in the spy pics.

The Obama mandated CAFE Law never went away.

All Bets from me are on the Twin Turbo Engine.
May be well shy of 1000 Hp.
Might be just 600 Hp..
Make Obama CAFE.

Hopefully Guys like me can ditch the stock turbos or what ever crap holds it back.
Give it 2000 + Hp.

Yes, they do but more than ever, GM feels that Cads mus have their own, unique V8s. I'm not sure why, but I know they want only DOHC and supposedly Detroit sources say the eventual DOHC V8 coming to the C8 (likely the Zora Z06) will NOT be the same engine found in the Cadillac.

Although I kind of understand Cad's desire to separate itself from Corvette's brutal power image, IMO it has already cost them the demise of a fine model. The XLR, almost 400 lbs heavier than it's chassis sibling the C6, had great potential but came standard with their Northstar 4.6 DOHC V8 and only 320 HP. The Vette ran 400 and 430 HP during the XLR's lifespan. The base MB SL550 was running a 5.5-liter V8 with 382 hp and 391 lb-ft. Not too many vette buyers were in the XLR demographic, but most of those that might have been tempted were probably put off by the low power to weight numbers. IMO, they should have offered at least one model XLR with a vette engine and watched the sales. They did this with the first CTS-V, putting in an LS7 from the C5 Z06 and it sold well and gained great respect for the model. FWIW

Yes, I am fully aware of CAFE and the gas guzzler tax and that Trump has stalled the Obama fast track to 54.5 MPG by 2025. You and I both know that the only way a Corvette will hit 54.5 MPG in the next 7 years...or ever... is electric power. Not likely even a Hybrid system would get to that lofty number unless using a Turbo 4 hybrid. I HATE the CAFE system. I would MUCH rather see a Carbon footprint measurement that includes the atmospheric impact of the average USA plant generating electricity (No one is willing to admit that if all cars were electric today, many more Electric Plants would be required to power ALL Vehicles so it is NOT just a simple MPG comparison) and the impact of the eventual battery disposal (NASTY, NASTY chemicals that I understand cannot be recyled) cooked into a measurement that might even out the gasoline vs. Electricity war. However, that is not likely to happen, so a near-sighted Government will essentially dictate that at some time before 2050 the gasoline engine will become an antique (and you think gas is expensive NOW, wait until you have order it on Amazon )
