In general, the nice thing about an opinion is that it is like an ass-hole: everyone has one.
You've been Americanized. Is there a French translation for that saying?? En Francais s'il vous plait.

p.s. My Dad left France in 1945 and met my Mother from Czechoslovakia on a boat coming over here. I was born in 1946 so I guess what they say about Frenchmen is correct and I assume language wasn't an issue. Dad's (my) family name is Burgette and Mom is Hrib. I'm very proud to be a first generation American. My Father said that his town was nearly destroyed by Allied bombing in 1944. That would be Lorient, Morbihan, France. Something about a U-Boat base. So I do have some roots in your area. I was able to overcome that obstacle and had a great career as a USMC "Cowboy". Yee Haw.

And BTW.........Je n'y crois pas ces conneries !

..maybe I shocked some people with my post but until you
find yourself in a life changing experience you'll never know.

...I find this quote from A Few Good Men as being very relivant
to todays events on trashing our military. " We use words like
honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a
life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I
have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a
man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom
that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide
it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your
way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. "

Belleau Wood = Devil Dogs.

Yep, that be us.

And, all hail the mighty Warthog. If the sound of that Gatling gun in the distance doesn't cause you to piss in your pants, you're probably the one who called them in.

My family is from Brittany. I go sailing not far from Lorient; the boat I built as a teenager is there (Saint Philibert to be exact). The priest that married us retired at Lorient.

Base is still there, closed, but still there. Carpet bombing had it's limits

The next two elections will tell how soon. If Obamacare remains the train wreck it is now, and people still vote in a Democrat as president and as the majority in the Senate....stick a fork in us. We are done. That will mean the majority of Americans are more afraid of the Republican Party than they are of a Socialist government. That may be true, and if it is....again - we're done. I'm glad I'm getting old.

The Dems/Progressives have done here, what Socialists have done everywhere. Build a voting constituency by increasing the number of people dependent on the government.

There are now 17 million more people on food stamps today then there were before Obama took office. Millions will benefit from free services, free health care, free government stimulus money, free government loans, government subsidized car purchases, etc. Never mind that someone else will be paying for all of this. Who cares, it's free right? A 19 Trillion dollar deficit,...what's that? Not my problem, as long as I get everything free!

When it comes time to vote, those millions will vote for anyone who promises to continue, and even increase free stuff.

We are rapidly approaching the point where every election will be easily won by the candidate who believes that the government should take care of you from womb to tomb.

You'd think Americans would learn from Greece, France, and other countries who've fallen pray to Socialism, and are in fiscal, as well as moral bankruptcy. We'll see in 2014, and 2016, if they have.

Until then, I care not for myself, because I'm retired, and comfortable financially. However, I worry for what lays ahead for my children, and grandchildren. Certainly not the America I've known and loved.

The problem is that the majority of people who receive those benefits couldn't find Greece or France on a map, much less have any inkling about the political system or the financial trouble they are in. And since they generally don't pay taxes, they couldn't care less where the money comes from -- as long as it keeps rolling in. Of course, they are blind to the fact that, thanks to them, the money WILL stop rolling in and the gravy train will have broken down. I feel for the future generations - including my kids' generation - that will be handed the bill along with a country full of dependents. Thank you, Democratic Party. I hope your power trip was worth selling your country down the river.

What kind of a boat did you build? I retired to go sailing. I also have done it since I bought my first beach cat in the 70's. Currently I have a Lord Nelson 42 that I just may sail over and take you out sailing next year. I'd love to see the old hometown. Just watch out......I'm a Cowboy. I sain INTO squalls to get some heavy weather practice. If the rail's not under water I need more sail.

Probably leave North Carolina, Pick up Bermuda and the Azores. Hope the Azores high isn't too bad and if so just turn on the engine. It holds 140 Gal of fuel and burns about a gallon an hour at 5.5 kts. I can go about 700 miles on the engine. Let's just go tour the Med. Are you a good mate? You'd have to bring some good wine.

The Ohio River. Not really, I keep the old boat in Calabash, NC at Marsh Harbor Marina. it's near the Little River inlet. No, not that Little River....the other one.

Thank you, I was beginning to wonder if anyone even noticed it.

I asked my son where it was taken, and he says sorry dad, I can't tell you.

I ask when it was taken, and he says he can't tell me.

We have great conversations like this all the time.
