GM finally admits the MidEngine C8 is real AND will debut on...

Although some higher up GM Execs have privately admitted that the ME C8 is real GM had never issued an official statement admitting that it really IS the next Gen Corvette. Yes, we have seen sooooo many spy shots and candid street shots, there was no doubt that these were all part of an EXTENSIVE production development program, but there was nothing official...until now.

Car & Driver has received Official GM confirmation that:
1. The next-generation 2020 Chevrolet Corvette will make the switch to a mid-engined layout.
2. GM provided Official "spy shots" (below I hope - pics seem to be locked)
3. The new Corvette C8 makes its debut July 18, 2019, and will go on sale by the end of the year.

Unofficially, the C7 2019 will continue production through August. BG will then shut down for Sep & Oct to convert to C8 production and build inventory for a January availability. Yeah, January. Not the most perfect release time for a sports car, but at least those of us in the Sun Belt will see them on the road.

Can't get the pics here. Here is the C&D link. Open and scroll down to see official pics STILL IN CAMMO:

You can sign up at Chevy to be notified about the C8 here:

Thanks LT! At least we know it'll be released THIS YEAR. I'm still shocked that's the real side-scoop design. It looks so tacked on. And awkward. Then again, the car still IS in cammo.

Excited to see it without camo. Hopefully the renderings aren't correct.

Interesting - the Museum sent out an email with the following information about the last C7...

General Motors will auction the final production seventh generation Chevrolet Corvette this summer, with the proceeds benefiting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
.
.
.
The final seventh gen Corvette ó a black 2019 Z06 model ó will be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast sale in Connecticut June 28.

Maybe the last C7 will be built later this year, but this sure sounds like production will stop a lot sooner than the end of August.

Please open the video below, make full screen on your monitor, and stop it at 51 seconds. Notice a round sticker - black outline and white in the middle. That white is a profile of Zora Duntov. There is a matching sticker on the other outside mirror and one more on each door about where you would put your thumb when you reach for the pad to open the door at the top of the scoop on the door.

Also, stop the vid at 55 seconds. Obviously, the myriad of led lights are there for this promotional vid only to show Tadge and Mary. However, notice that there is something at the center of the roof above the inside rear view mirror. I KNOW I must be wrong but man does that ever look like the t-top bar on my C-3. Maybe it's just a battery pack stuck there for the LEDs, but Ö. interesting.

Also visible at 55 seconds is the white dot on the door that is actually Zora's profile sticker.

Perhaps the best view of one of the small stickers is at 1:18. Even there it looks more like a skull, but it really IS Zora. If you can download a high res pic and zoom in on it you will see it. IMO these stickers are a nice touch but FAR too subtle considering the respect that is owed to Zora. Hope we see a top performance model named Zora. THAT would be appropriate IMHO.

The first C8s off the production lines will NOT be the "Killer of all Else" Zora model so all overly lofty expectations for the early C8 should be quelled.

Like all of the recent generations, the base/Stingray model will comprise 100% of the initial offerings. Add in the Z-51 option and the car, even with less than C7 Z06 HP will deliver Z06-like performance. Much more of the HP available will hook up early and stay hooked later because of the rear mid layout. Both Straight line and cornering performance will dramatically improve while reducing visits to the tire store and delivering more predictability.

Depending upon how the Stingray sells, the Z06 will come roughly a year later and like the C7 will be ALMOST the "Killer of all Else." In fact, close enough that very few will be chomping at the bit for the Zora's eventual debut.

How does Monk say it? "I could be wrong, but I don't think so."

And, "You'll thank me later."

Based on the videos I've seen, and the rumour-mill, I don't think so. In all the videos out there that I've seen, it's always sounded like DCT (paddle shifters)

Yeah, but imo that isn’t “manual” the computer is basically in charge. I’m an old soul, but I’d never drive a vette without a stick shift. I know I am probably in the minority, but it’s what connects me to the car and makes it fun. Paddle shifters don’t do that for me.

No stick in a C8 means I’m def sticking my my old c5 lol

I too will be keeping my C6 regardless of whatever else I buy. Whether I'll ever get a C8 will remain to be seen.

It means too much to me to have the responsibility of physically keeping my car in the correct gear. I enjoy it, and not just by squeezing a paddle.

Just Wait Kenny.
The C8 TT just may do 0-60 mph in 1.0 second.
Means a 9-second 1/4 mile drag pass.

It's been a Thorn in every single Corvette since the last Turbo 400 was installed or a Muncie 4.

Ultra wide gear ratio spread.
Wasting valuable Hp and slow times.

Only Grumpy and me understand how that Race Math works.

well that takes care of the myth that G/M would produce both C/7 and C/8 at the same time.

This is the first OFFICIAL confirmation, but that writing has been on the wall for a while. Along with this revealed FACT we know that there are no immediate plans for a lesser costly Front Engine model. Therefore, the cost of the C8 Stingray MUST be near the cost of C7 Stingray in order to sell at the C7 volumes required to support the Bowling Green Factory. Typically, a new generation Corvette base price starts anywhere from a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars higher. This gen change should be no different.
