I'm hoping in some weird way that corvette magazine got it slightly wrong and that the official specs by GM will differ - in a good way. This car will probably beat the convertible viper, but perhaps the coupe viper will be more of a match.
I agree; i also think it may be a tight fight with the Vipers that generally have more than spec torque, larger rear brakes and very precise chasis. Certainly in most--if not all--cases it will come down to drivers not cars. That said I love the look of this z06. It is agressive without being a cartoon, far more exciting looking than the porsches and once again offers turbo (maybe even x50) performance at a fraction of the cost.

It looks taught, exciting, balanced. Just what a great sports car should be with enough storage etc. to be useable.

If the precision in the feel is there and it is just slightly more refined in its NVH than the Viper this is a bargain and I can't wait to get one. My heart--not yet the car--is RACING!

Wheel size shows 325X19", so I concede, but my source drove one with 345X20" wheels.

If you look closely at the rear flare, you will note sufficient clearance for larger tires.

As I said. "Christmas would come early for the forums!!"

what about the weight?

"the 2006 Z06 weighs nearly 50 pounds less than the standard C6 (or some 3130 total)"

Ummm..wouldnt that make the car weigh in at:

3245 - 50 = 3195 lbs instead of 3130??

Now how much is it going to cost? [/B][/QUOTE]

Lots of people are hoping for around $60K, but, like the article says, GM's shooting for high sixties. I'm guessing just under $70K.

BTW, my car (91' ZR1) stickered for $68K 15 years ago. So, I think that figure is not too outrageous. With that list of upgrades, a hand built engine, great looking body mods. Anyone that doesn't think it's worth it is living in a dream world.

This car has BALLS. It's the first Corvette to light my fire since the ZR1.

DON'T FORGET NSX, AND VIPERS SUCK. MOST VIPER DRIVERS CAN'T HANDLE WHAT POWER THEY HAVE. RICE BURNERS ARE JUST ANNOYING.

PS, WHERE DO THESE 20 YEAR OLDS GET

THERE MONEY? SOME ONE SHOULD SHOW
THEM HOW TO BUY AMERICAN.

DAMN, I AM IMPRESSED !! BUT it definetly puts me out of the ballpark for a new one. I will have to wait for some of the hype and prices to drop and buy a 1 or 2 year old C6 Z06. By then the 1st year bugs will hopefully be worked out.

One question, What kind of crank? Forged? I didn't see any mention of it. Is it assumed to be forged? That is the only thing I see missing from the dream motor if you did want to safely add more power.

I know the price is higher than any of us wanted but if the spec's listed are true, GM did alot of the upgrades we C5 Z06 owners had to pay for and we probably voided our warranty on some of them. Also you get a lot more return on your money if the upgrades came from the factory instead of aftermarket.

Also with the higher C6 Z06 price I it hope keeps the C5 Z06 values up longer . Can't wait till 06 or 07 to sell my 03 Z06 and get a C6 Z06.
