First, you must be a Designer.
Design a car that GM would want to build and sell, then present your design to them.
GM isn't gonna teach you how to design cars. Those days are over.

Design and build a car that people will want to buy, and that you can sell enough of to offset the cost of Design, Engineering, Marketing, and Legal......

My first suggestion would be to learn how to kiss some serious ass..... you'de be surprised how far that will take you in life

As soon as the Program starts accepting all applicants regardless of driving skill level....

And as soon as they decide that crashing cars is more important than winning races....

You'll be in like Flynn at that point.....

This is the question plaguing many American teens today. Not all of them are as fortunate as you to have found the path to unlimited Automotive knowledge, all wrapped up in a nice, Blue wrapper....

Your first car will be American made, and should probably be a V8 F-Body. You will learn much about the technical nature of American V8's that way.... do not be swayed by those who are initally faster than you in their 4 cylinder buzz-mobiles. With patience, understanding, and the Summit racing catalog at your disposal, you will be able to create a car capable of making their cars look like the stupid little annoyances that they are.....

On a side note if you HAD an 81 wouldn't you already know what your first car was?
