moon landing 50 years ago saturday

Hey you old guys....

Do you remember the day, where you were, etc when you saw the first lunar landing on TV?

July 20th, 1969

I do.

I'll never forget.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people...I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

I remember. That is still the defining moment that the U.S. became the leader in the space race, and still are.

Until some other group pulls off what we did 50 years ago, then they're in second place.

I was a young teen.

On a family vacation returning from a tour of western states.

Colo, ariz, nevada, utah, etc.

We were using my grandparents motorhome.

They used it to go to Fla during the winter so we used it in the summer.

We were staying at a KOA campground in Iowa 7/20/69

I walked into the recreation building and there were all these people sitting in folding chairs watching a small black and white TV on a folding table.

I stood there in absolute awe watching the lunar landing.

Leaving the pod. walking. "one small step for man...." the whole bit.

like it was yesterday/.

They also sung about the dark side of the moon on the song "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright. That song was very psychedelic for your ears. Take a hit of acid, let the JBL tweeters do their tweeting, enjoy the phase shifting, burn the incense and just stare at a lava lamp for a couple of hours......or so I've heard. A friend told me about the experience.

Bunch of burned out damned ole' Hippies. I'm talking about our "friends", not us.

My "friend" also told me that if you're playing badminton while on a trip that it's a unique experience. Apparently if the other person serves and if you can get your head under the birdie, it will turn into a big fluffy cumulus cloud that encompasses all of your vision just about the same time it bounces off your forehead. I'm thinking that if someone saw you playing in this manner they might think there's something wrong with you. It would have to look funny.

I've also been told that the walls (?) of a Quonset hut can breathe.....in and out.....in and out, etc.

I was in Nam doing guard duty on the 20th, 50 years ago, time sure does fly.
We had a starlight scope and it was useless, the binoculars didn't fare much better.
Now some 50 years later, i can not get enough of the moon landing info.

Wasn't around when we step foot on the moon. However after cars, my next hobby is space stuff and one of the greatest achievement IMO of this country. With in that hobby because of the internet we are able to see the level of intelligence when it comes to space and science. Whenever I do something dumb, all I have to think, is at least I don't believe the earth is flat and we never went to the moon.

I had a friend while stationed in Germany who'd take his monthly trip on blotter or micro dot. He'd enjoy watching the trees across the street from his barracks and in front of the hangers do the Can Can. Or he'd walk to the sunken soccer pitch at night, lay down and stare at the stars or play night frisbee. One thing he told was that you'll never get drunk while tripping on lisergic's.....

Smithers, unleash the hounds!
Edelbrock E-Force 1593 & Magnaflow exhaust for that healthy American sound. Before SC 354 RWHP, after SC 484 RWHP. That's all I can do and still pass California smog.
