geez, seems like all you guys have some painful relationships. While, IMO, guys are typically easier to deal with, I haven't had THAT much trouble with women. Seems like most of the time if you give a litte, you get a little.

Going back to the question at hand, what if the guy loves her more than life itself, but doesn't catch on to the "metamessage." Then she ends up irritated for no reason other than that her guy isn't psychic! Sounds like bad news to me...

No, there's two different ways of communicating going on here. Men usually say what they mean, but women, well who really knows!

EXACTLY MY POINT....you need to pick up on those messages. thats the whole point of my paper..men and women communicate differently, and its important that both the man and the woman understand how the other communicates in order to have a successful relationship!

Welcome to the real world buddy! Relation ships with the opposite gender sometimes can be very dicey for all concerned. I don't see it as any ones "fault" but as a result of two different ways of dealing with the world in general.

I have often thought that if it was not for the biological attraction of one for the other, men and women would not even bother with one another. And to be perfectly honest with you, I really wonder sometimes if we didn't get the better part of the deal. They seem to be doing a hell of a lot more adjusting and compromising then we do!

Set aside the "macho" image of your self for a moment and you will see it for yourself. But on the other hand, if you don't have that macho image, then you won't be, as Sheryl Crow sings, "man enough to be my man" , so whattya gonna do?

A very feminine assumption and very true , from a woman's point of view. But from a man's point of view, signifies nothing at all. "And there's the rub"

I must read her msg? How about she read MY MSG to make me happy? Now there's a novel idea you won't see going over to big at a feminist meeting.

If she really doesn't want to know what I want, then what's the point of asking? I'm going to eat it anyway!

lol whatever, man. if it were up to me, everyone would just say whatever the hell they want so they'll get it. if you want pizza, say you want pizza. if i want lasagna, ill fuckin' say i want lasagna, i won't leave it up to the guy to make me happy. althought that IS nice sometimes.

Wait, wait.

Why is it incumbent upon men to figure out what is to them, a completly illogical method of communication?

You did say "important that both the man and the woman understand how the other communicates" but you also say that men have to do all the msg picking up.

Men don't do meta messaging, so whats so difficult for women to understand when they speak? Is it because they are looking for the non-exsistant "meta msg"?

I'm not so sure that "understanding" is even possible. What I believe is even more important is the knowing that these differences exist. Then even if you don't understand it, you could be a little more tolerant of one anothers differences.

yes. because men tend to say exactly what they think. and women don't

men do, sometimes...like if your wife asks you, "do you want to go to so-and-so's party with me?" you don't want to, but you say something like, "i'll go if you want to go." she obviously wants to, because she asked, and you tried to send out the message "no i don't really want to go" without sounding rude by flat-out saying "no."

does that make more sense?

there seems to be a slight difference there though... the woman's metamessage is a tool to determine if the guy really cares for her. The man's metamessage is merely him trying not to piss her off.
