500 flywheel Hp is enough to get a Steel Chevy or Pontiac Musclecar into 10's.
10.70 solid.
Takes 4.10- 4.30 -5.38 gears depending upon weight of car and torque band of engine.

A Corvette not chassis setup for Drag and Mid 3 series diff gears will take 650-700 hp.

4L60E is a bad trans for Drag Race even if it holds up.
Because so much time is lost on the 1-2 shift.
Ultra wide ratio gearspread.

A Turbo 400 or 4L80E will knock .50 -.70 ET off of 1/4 mile doing nothing else.
Provided you have the correct stall torque converter.
Not inexpensive for a Torque tube Corvette as you know.
4L80E is A Turbo 400 with Overdrive.
Both Close Ratio autos.

Superior to all.
Even what Dodge has.
Hellcats 8-speeds blow up its $11k to replace.
A Turbo 400 goes in instead.

That is actually comforting to hear. I have had many tuning sessions with this car. even invested in more books from the tuning school just for trans tuning to try to get the most out of this setup. I thought the power adder on a c5 should be worth the 10's. Guess I think too highly of these cars.

Might go the 4l80e route down the road. Right now the car is running on a 2200 or 2500 stall converter with a jasper rebuilt 4l60e. Surely that will be the weak link in the chain and the next to fail after the b15 goes in.

We have an advertisement up on the fence right at the staging lane at Palm Beach Speedway. I've never actually been but I want to start going up there and I think when this car is back together I will follow him and we shall pit c5 b8 vs. c5 b15 + power adder + 3.42 gear + converter. I am gonna get walked on. but it will make for a cool picture to have 2 vettes with our advertisement.

but, it is a 3 year 100,000mile warranty. So we will see how far we get with that. We expect at least one repair out of it. And then we will push for the conversion.

When the 4L60E blew on my Tahoe it sent Shit all into the Radiator & Auxiliary trans cooler.
Covered on Grumps place too.
New Stand Alone Hayden Trans cooler on order from Summit Racing.
Be here soon.

The Worst God Damn Fucking POS Trans GM ever made I think.
4L60e.

10 second cars usually have 4000 to 5000 rpm stall converters.
Really helps getting out of the gate Fast.

3500 rpm at least needed for 10s.

Word of advice Wiz.
Be carefull not to step out of your Comfort Zone.
You specialize in EFI TUNING & ASSEMBLY OF CORVETTES.

Drag Racing is also a Blame game when things go wrong.
Parts break.

Do too much and blame gets put on you.

Wow, what a thread. I like the 4l60E. When I had my tranny built I went with a six planet 2.84 ratio gear instead of the stock 3.06 or whatever it was. They also installed a billet output shaft and a new sun shell. The Raybestos 9 friction 3/4 shift will also hold tons of power. The sun shell will probably be the first thing to break. It's a weak link for sure.

The 4L60E can handle about a thousand horsepower if built correctly and will use less engine power than a 4L80E. It will also not require any torque tube modifications or driveshaft shindigs. The tranny mount is another area that would need attention. Too much trouble for little to no gain in reliability, IMHO.

I also like the TH400 but that 1 to 1 third gear would be a killer with my 4.56 gears. Hell, I'd probably be hitting the redline at 60 MPH or something. The 4L80E, like the TH400 is known to use up a lot more power than the 700R4/4L60/4L60E/4l65E and the 4l70E.

My tranny is a big overkill for my current build on the Impala SS but I'll be going twin turbo soon. Hey Wiz, did you ever get the tune dialed in on the twin turbo Impala that you were working on? What kind of power did it make?
