Rear Spindle Endplay

I have the setup tool and new spacers + shims but I cannot get the endplay below .005. Is it okay to sand the shim or spacer? The book allows .001-.008 but I've heard the ideal is around .001-.003.

Yes Its Ok to sand shims.
I have done it.
If You have a Brown & sharp surfacer with a magnetic chuck its more accurate & easier.
A large machine shop tool machine.

If its in spec you can leave.

If A Racecar you want to be close to min. spec. bearings wear under high speed high loading.
