My Vette is back at Fairway Chevrolet! Last night suddenly my Fuel Quantitly Indicator dropped down to Empty accompanied by Low Fuel Warning at half-tank of gas, then this morning on my way to the dealership it suddenly corrected itself. WTF? This year alone, Fairway replaced my fuel pump, left fuel tank, and a fuel leak repair and now this!
Your issue has nothing to do with this recall. It's a common issue on the C5 that everyone faces, especially if you don't use top tier fuel. The common fix has been ti use TechronPLUS additive to a tank of gas every few tanks. TechronPLUS is expensive and I found that Gumout's Fuel Injector Cleaner works even better than TechronPLUS. Since I have been using Gumout's product, the problem has went away for good.

A very common issue.

After having my Vette at the Fairway Dealership for a full day and a half, they finally called me only to tell me that I needed a new fuel pump...Really Dude?..So I asked "are you aware that you guys just replaced that fuel pump 6 months ago? With a repair cost of over $2000 charged to Carmax Warranty?..Just pull up your history". Their response was "Oh....We will call you back.....well 6 hours later I still have not heard back from them.

Dude, they're trying to bend you over. Pick your car up and take it to a reputable mom and pop shop. Most stealerships are not your friend. What's wrong with your car that made you take it in?

To all 2004 owners.
The only way you'll have any problems or get a letter from GM is if your car's VIN # falls between these:

2004 Chevrolet Corvette
VIN 45110258 to 45125500

If your VIN # isn't effected then I wouldn't worry about it !
Hello SG Lou
My VIN falls between these to numbers, and I am pretty sure I did not get a letter.

Should I "worry about it"?

You won't get a letter unless you signed up with GM or you bought the car new from a GM dealership. Other than that, they have no way of knowing that you have the car.

You can sign up here.

1 week after they replaced my left gas tank for a leak, my fuel gage suddenly dropped to read Empty when I still had half tank gas left. Now they tell me I need a
new fuel pump when they just replaced it 6 months ago.

The dealership called back, said my Vette is fixed at no charge but they want to keep it until Monday to have their QC guy test drive it so that they are 100% sure I wouldn't have any more fuel system problems.

AJ, According to Paul ( c4c5specialist ) Techtron is not the answer. ( It worked for me BTW )
anyway according to Paul:

"Hi there,

With your FFS fuel system, Techron is not an accurate repair.

There is an updated fuel system calibration for your PCM. That is the first thing I would try.

When you run out of fuel, what does your fuel gauge read ??

The second thing is telling me that your jet pump is NOT transfering fuel OR your cannot fully FILL the system.

Either way, diagnostics is needed with a Tech2 and accurate determination of the system usage and ability to fill the tank.

Allthebest, c4c5 "

Thanks Junkman:
I did buy it new from a GM dealership.

I signed up on the link you supplied too. It indicated "There are no recalls for your vehicle."

I guess I'll just keep this thread handy in case I have any issues in the future.

Thanks again for the help/link.

I would need to see the question that he responded to because he specifically stated that he was addressing the FFS fuel system, and the question asked may noy be the same problem that is being discussed here. Also, he is correct about Techron. Techron doesn't contain the additive that addresses this problem, TechronPLUS does. They are two different products and he addressed that in some post that I have read of his. He also addressed the fact that Seafoam doesn't contain that additive either.

Now one thing that I should clarify is that the TechronPLUS and Gumout products only address the problem, not FIX it. If you quit using either product long enough, the problem will return. I hope I have been clear on my wording with that. The only fix for the problem requires dropping the tank and replacing stuff. I have yet to want to do that job and thus, am using the work-around.

The fuel gauge issue that we are talking about and what you are experiencing is NOT a recall. It was a TSB technical service bulletin), which are released to authorized service centers to address common issues seen in the shop. As a consumer, you would normally never see these bulletins as they are not released to, or written for the consumer. Thanks to the Internet age, this information can be found by Joe weekend mechanic now.

Recalls are issues that involve safety issues. In other words, if you can bring a lawsuit against a automotive manufacturer because of a defect in your car, you can bet that issue will become a recall.

Yep, that's two different issues that guy is having. The software issue that Paul addresses affects a wider range of years than just the 2003-04 years (it affected my 2001, although the software did nothing to fix the issue). It is always the starting point BEFORE you turn any screws if your car falls withing the VIN numbers affected. However, his other issue was addressed in this TSB.

It's a fun read... not.

I would suggest contacting your local dealer or a VERY reputable shop about replacement. After this many years (your Vette is 11 years old) i seriously doubt that GM will be any help

OK Let me ask you this, on my 2009 corvette came with an aftermarket radio with backup cam. I replaced it with a 2012 radio, w/ nav but no backup cam. Is there a part I could add to my 2012 radio to give me a backup cam ? If I fix this fuel leak myself any advice?
