I bought a new Camaro in '73- Z-28 (245hp/350) It had AIR and EGR, low compression (9.0-1), and a cam that was near flat. All that lasted until the warranty was over, then the fun did begin.. I think it'd be pretty safe to say the Vette came about the same way..

AIR system, EGR, charcoal cannister, PCV to carb. No cats. But (at least here in Colorado, anyway) it is not required to be in place. It was California equipment only (at least the AIR & EGR), but was installed on all cars. Therefore (I repeat, at least here in Colorado) it was not illegal for me to remove the AIR & EGR.

:agree:

New Mexico was the same way. We could remove them and most did.

I was looking at the inspection standards for virginia and it says that emissions equipment needs to be in place. The only way around that is registering it as an antique vehicle, and then I cant drive it anywhere farther than 250 miles away.

I lived in Md. up there, so just inspection when I bought this '72, and never again....not even to Florida....so i'ts been home free on mods....

how often is Va inspection?? is it a full visual with computer documentation as to appearance on these old cars?? do they do a rolling or idle emissions check?? about 1/2 the states don't even bother on old cars anymore...

But Va. has been known to be very anal about crap....check the laws specifically, if you can go to an inspection station do so and observe walk in the office and ask about procedures so as not to waste time...most guys will talk to you...sometimes they have no clue as to what emission gear had to be there...things like air pumps were optional on some cars/years/ EGR was thru the line though...so using a lo flo EGR intake manifold and blocking it off is a dead giveaway, they see the plate now the intake changed out, and maybe it can pass visual....maybe...depends on how anal the guys have to be/are/choose to be....independant shops/gas stations like in Md, are generally easier....

but to find the brackets/hoses/valves/etc for the airmpump crap is going to be difficult to impossible anymore....let alone the exhaust manifolds typically have pipe stubs up top for that crap to hook in to....dead giveaway....

I"m SO glad I don't have to deal with that horse **** anymore....
