This may be a stupid question but I am just learning about corvettes and cars in general.
I have a 1982 collectors edition corvette, is it a 4 speed automatic (with overdrive) or 3 speed? The owners manual states that if it shows P,R,N,OD,3,2,1 it has the over drive and if it shows P,R,N,D,2,1 it does not have the over drive. However mine shows P,R,N,D,3,2 and mine does shift like it has an over drive. Any information would really help, Thanks.

No, it IS a 4-speed/A-OD. My '82 lists 'P-R-N-D-3-2', and it shifts 3 times, into OD. It was originally-equipped with the 27-sline 700R4 transmission. If so, your gear ratios are 3.06:1, 1.63:1, 1:1 (direct-drive), and .7:1 (OD), and, chances are your rear gear is 2.87:1. Do you turn just 1000 RPM on level ground at a 40 MPH cruise???
