2008 Dual Mode Exhaust

Are there any changes to the exhaust tone at idle and acceleration to 3500rpm with the new dual mode, or is the only change after 3500. With my 08 order, I will be looking for a more aggressive idle tone and low end rpm growl. Will any of this be achieved with the dual mode, or am I better off doing a cat-back aftermarket such as Corsa or Borla?

The dual mode exhaust is identical(in operation, not construction) to the C6Z06 exhaust. It doesnt offer a louder or more aggressive sounding idle, quite the opposiste, at idle and cruising rpms its very mild and after the control point(3000-3500rpm) the valves open and the exhaust becomes louder.

Either install one of the switch kits, remove the fuse, or go aftermarket.
Thank you. Can you tell me about the switch kits. I have heard of them, but know nothing.
On my 06 Z06 I found the Dual Mode to be too quiet for me when closed and just droned when open, so I installed a B&B Fusion. But at least I didn't pay extra for the Dual Mode. I expect this option on the 2008s won't be cheap, we'll know soon. A lot of 2008 owners will pay a lot for this option, only to remove it and install something with a little more sound.
the switch kits range from about $50-150 depending on whether its just a bypass, a switch you control on the dash or if you want the snazzy remote control feature. They just allow you to manually control the operation of the valves.
I saw somewhere that the dual mode will be a $1200 add on. A little pricey, when you consider you can throw a Corsa or Borla on for that price.

It's a crap shoot if don't ride in a vette with the exact exhaust you are considering. I made changes to my last vette's exhaust that caused droning at 70-75 that not only made conversation difficult, it loosened mollars. If I had had to drive it on freeways to work daily, I'd have made another costly change. Sounded fantastic at idle and around town though.

Maven, thanks as always for the great info. Didn't know the new flappers were actually quieter when closed.
So is the dual-mode exhaust quieter with the flaps closed than the normal, "non-flapper" exhaust at same rpm's, same load, ect..

Something to thing about, I purchased 2005 6 speed manual Vette that had a Borla Exhaust Sysrem on it. The sound was so loud and certain RPM's I could not here the radio. If you gave it half a peddle of gas and released the peddle it would sound like it was back firing. I don't know if all Borla exhausts are like that, but I ended up selling it on ebay and put the stock exhaust back on. If you like that sound great. I could not feel any gain in performance or in fuel economy as Borla states.

My point exactly. Sound bytes on the internet or hearing an aftermarket brand cruise by in a parking lot is just not enough to base a $1000 - $2000 decision on, IMO.
from what ive heard from people (ive never actualy heard the system) b&b makes some great exhausts. ive always viewed borlas exhaust as very loud do what you want depending on your needs.

o yea if you want the option of opening and closing your exhaust look into electric exhaust cutouts. qtec is pretty good cutouts are pretty good. its cheaper going this route and u can have stock and loud so you dont have to deal with drone...
QTP (Quicktime Performance) makes the electric exhaust cutouts
