Anyone know if a 2008 headunit (with std XM and Ipod jack) will plug/play in an older c6?? Lots of posts on adding XM and adding Aux jacks, but it seems like the neatest install would be a new headunit from GM Parts Direct. Might be more expensive, but for the factory look and function this seems like a no-brainer!

I have a 06 c6 with the nav was wondering if the 08 will play mp3 cd's I would hate to go after-market. It would be nice to have an ipod jack but would love even more if i could play mp3 cd's that i create!!!!

My '05 C6 NAV plays MP3 CDs! It was a firmware upgrade available via CD-ROM from GM for free. I assumed it was standard on the '06 model....

The ipod jack in the 08 radio is not an ipod jack at all. It is a 1/8" audio in and it will not charge your ipod or transfer info to the radio screen. There are posts out there on how to wire a real ipod jack into your system, or if you have Nav, GM is coming out with a PAL (persoanl audio link) in September which will be dealer installed for cars with Nav. It will charge the ipod and show the song lists on the screen and be able to control from the screen. The jack will be mounted in the Glove box or the console. The 1/8" jack on 08 standard radio is a joke and it is ugly to boot.

Did you ever get a reply on this? I have the same question for my 05.

will not plug and play

This will not plug and play, it would require programming and/or setup with GM software that probably only your dealer has. The harder part is determining if software is available to program the newer radio to an older car, your dealer would have to contact Techline (the GM software group) to determine if a specific radio part number could be programmed to your VIN. This is done for radio security, a radio cannot be stolenand put in another car.
