A new official video from Chevrolet showing test driver Jim Mero piloting the 638-hp Corvette to a time of 7:19.63, an 6 second improvement over the famous high speed run in July 2008.

http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2011...s&utm_medium=forum&utm_content=060911_zr1ring

The new time of 7:19.63 beats the previous 2009 Corvette ZR1s run of 7:26.4 by over 6 seconds. The new time also puts the 2012 Corvette ZR1 ahead of the Dodge Viper ACR (7:22.1), the Porsche 911 GTS RS (7:24) and the Nissan GT-R (7:24.22).

Saw this over on Blogger. How many cars have broken the 7:20 mark now? I've called about 5 people about this. Sadly it has made my day.

That's an excellent time.

Very close to the GT2 RS (7:18) which I didn't think we'd see grazed for awhile.
The 7:18 time for the Porsche GT2 RS is a manufacturer's claim and has not been validated by anyone. (no video either) Sport Auto ran a test with a GT2 RS and that time was 7:24.0.

No evidence that Porsche has lied either... N-Ring times are always scrutinized and speculated like with the GT-R about its tires, or how others started their lap. I'll leave it up to the manufactures to be accurate, since I can't be there to inspect and validate every car as "production" and every lap as "clean".

The real story is good ole fashion "Corvette", a beastly $100k ZR1 tangling atop cars leaps above its own price.

2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS
Car & Driver:
Compared with the last GT2, this new RS serves up a rather unexpected and extreme power boost, adding 90 hp for a total of 620, available at 6500 rpm. Torque from the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six rises just slightly from 505 lb-ft to 516, available from 2250 to 5500 rpm. The huge power jolt likely explains why Porsche went straight to GT2 RS in naming this beast, completely skipping the plain GT2 moniker. Only 500 will be made for the entire globe, and American buyers will pay a cool $245,000 for the right to own one.

The SR8 RX's new RPE 2.7 litre RPX V8 engine develops an incredible 460bhp and is suitable for use in a variety of Radical series around the world including the Radical Masters pan European series. This was the same specification used by Michael Vergers to set the production car lap record around the fearsome Nürburgring Nordschleife in August 2009.

Wikipedia:
The Radical SR8 is a British sports car made by Radical Sportscars that holds the Nürburgring lap time of 6:55. The LM edition holds the Nürburgring lap record for the fastest production car in the world with a time of 6:48. [1]

A prototype is being made, with the help of Radical Sportscars, into an all-electric version by Racing Green Endurance, a student-led project of Imperial College London.

Not likely to be made street legal in the US, the Euro versions runs $301,600EU or about $423,000. The Apollo uses a 4163 cc bi-turbo intercooled version of the Audi V8 engine.[7] The 90° V8 has a closed-deck light metal crankcase with dry sump lubrication. The light metal cylinder heads have five valves per cylinder, four overhead camshafts, VarioCam Direct variable valve timing on the intakes, and hydraulic valve clearance compensation. The double-flow exhaust system has four oxygen sensors to monitor the gas mixture, and a 3-way catalytic converter. Modern controls include an on-board diagnostic system, eight-coil electronic ignition, sequential multipoint fuel injection, and an electronic (drive by wire) accelerator system.

There are 3 engine types available:

Base version - approximately 650 PS (478 kW; 641 bhp)
Sport version - approximately 700 PS (515 kW; 690 bhp)
Race version - approximately 800 PS (588 kW; 789 bhp)

The Donkervoort seems to look like a modified Lotus 7. It also seems as though the Colin Chapman adage of "adding less weight" was used as this car only employs 270hp. When you really look at it, the 7:19 run by the 2012 ZR1 is in elite company. It's a car you can set the mag ride control to touring for and take a weekend trip in. Or set the dial to sport and tear up the roads.

That thing is FAST! I love when it gets air. Sweet!
Next Year a 56th experimental, non-class car has been approved to run LeMans. I can't wait to see THIS thing catch air. It might land in London.

DeltaWing Racing Cars LLC; Dan Gurney`s All American Racers and Highcroft Racing announced on Wednesday that they`ve combined resources for Project 56, which will bring a DeltaWing concept car to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012. American Le Mans Series founder Don Panoz has been asked to serve as a key advisor.

I have seen some good points about the claim of the Posche 911 GT2 RS running the ring in 7:18 as there is no video to back it up. Its 2011 everyone takes video at the track hell even if the manufacturer isn't people around are. If the car really ran that lap time then where is the proof, not saying that the 911 GT2 RS can't run that as I am sure it can.

This I think goes to show the notion of the Corvette needs to go to a mid engine AWD layout that its reached its limit simply isn't true.

one must wondering how much faster would the ZR1 be if it had a type of sequential manual gear box even a duel clutch transmission. It could have even ran a 7:16 second lap time in that situation, now that would be amazing IMHO.

I say 6 speed manual standard with a optional 6 speed SMG (to replace auto in all Corvettes) for the ZR1 and Z06.
