A member here has offered me a BOWTIE OVERDRIVE crossmemeber for a 700R4 swap.

BOWTIE has them listed as 68/79 and 80/81

Not 68/81 are they different(stock) crossmembers???

I thought the frames were all the same??

Can't recall when, but sometime after 76, the second hole for dual exhaust was removed from the X-members. I think all the 80-82 X members are bolt in regardless of original tranny with the same X-member being used for AT and MT.
My GM parts catalogue shows two different X members for the 79 and earlier cars depending on tranny used.

The last year for a crossmember with the dual exhaust passages was 1979.
Starting in 80 the crossmember only had a raised area on the passenger side.

The transmission cross-member welded "mount-tabs" ON THE MAIN FRAME are located approx. 1-inch lower on a 80-81-82 frame when compaired to a 1979 & earlier frame.
Also as stated above the 80-81-82 transmission cross member does NOT have two exhaust cross-through holes.
Any aftermarket cross-member would be specific to 68-79 or 80-82.
