Great that your dad is involved. I wish my son was more interested in these cars.

How is the project coming along? Did you get your transmission woes worked out? Engine in?

You haven't posted in a while so a friendly nudge is in order.
Hey 7T,
Making progress most everyday. This post finds me painting the driver side door jamb today. Get door back together and back on the car tomorrow. then do the other side! Trying not to have any more apart than I have to at one time. Get the other side trimmed, then I'm going to put the carpet and interior back in sans console. By then I should have the trans ready... :thud:

Hey guys,
Thanks much for asking about my progress, it does help me stay motivated. Had to back off for a couple weeks as I was getting burned out, played with other things... new belts on my old Nakamich cassette deck, new boogie cab for my bass amp, pulled out the 68 bonnie just to remember I had it. But I still did a little on the vette. Had the driver door hung back on and was going to move on to the passenger door, but realized the deck lid was there and I wasn't going to get away without trimming that too. So...

it needed a little repair, not bad but the hinge area here had a stress crack that I couldn't live with.

What a buttload of sanding, geez, and all those irregular surfaces take much time, ...whine, whine.

Couldn't help another pic of the door jamb, those polished stainless steel strikers are the shizzit!

And new rubber in the door guides!

Heading back to the shop shortly to hopefully get the decklid painted and the gutter on the car prepped for trimming. This car has a lot of paint on it and it really costs a lot of time to deal with it. Where I can, I try to sand it all off to the glass for a fresh start, makes for a better job. But I also gotta do some work on the bmw today so's Julia can drive it out of town to school soon... front control arms, driver door lock cylinder (that's a bitch), guibo and center driveshaft bearing, etc... :thud: So, it'll be a long day if the weather cooperates!

On the vette, I have to regroup soon after trimming this decklid and decide what to do with the LS1 wiring harness/computer, and the t56 rebuild. I called Josh's guy for the wiring but didn't get him. I'm sure he's busy. Would kinda rather get it done closer to home if possible anyway. Ditto transmission. Any recommendations around SW Ga?

Glad to see you are back at it!!!

Nakamichi? I use to be the Rep for them back in the day- I had a RX 202- too cool to do the autoreverse thing!!!

Where did you get the ss strikers?

Thanks for the update........

I remember sanding all those inside curves, hard to reach places and corners that live on the bottom of the deck lid. They seem endless and most of them require hand sanding too. I feel your pain.

Where did you find SS door latch pins?

Thanks Richard,
I have two LX3's that I just love. I'd rather maintain them and use 'em than buy a new one!
Can't remember where I got the strikers but it was one of the big three. I'll find out though.

Hey 7T,
Yep, all you can do is hand sand all the underside. And the flat areas have a molded in texture that I didn't want to damage. I took a 1 inch square x 12 inch long foam sanding block and cut it into different lengths. A 1 inch long and 3 inch long were the most used. Of course you sand it to feather out all the nicks and scrapes and epoxy prime, then the next day you sand it all again and apply primer surfacer, then you sand it all again 'till you get what you want. Then seal and paint.
It'll be pretty though...!
I'll have to find the link for the ss strikers. They really are nice, very well polished.

T56 heading to Tick Performance!

It's about time, getting level 2 rebuild with new bearings. That should be plenty good for a stock gto ls1. I need to get a clutch, when I get the tranny back I'll be ready to at least sit it in the car! I won't know how to act! Got to try to have the paint trim work finished by then, maybe the doors back together except for chrome bits I'll leave off til I do the final paint, and probably the carpet and seats in! :thud:
Tick makes it really easy to do the shipping thing with step by step instructions. UPS will come to my door and get it, and bring it back the same way. I never even have to load it on my truck! Cool...

Clutch ??

Hey I need to sort out this clutch thing. I've figured out my motor is an LS1 from an 04 GTO, t56 from an 00 fbird. The salvage yard guys stuck the two together to sell me as a pullout.
Now, I think the motor was from an automatic car as it has no pilot bearing. So I have to guess they pulled the manual trans from the firebird complete with the clutch and flywheel (but possibly not). The bellhousing has been clearanced to accept the gto starter so I think I'll leave that.
But my questions are...
Are the LS flywheels all the same, as I don't know for sure where mine came from (I had it surfaced though)? Are the pressure plates all the same and will interchange?
And if not how to identify what I have?
Also, if anyone has suggestions on where to go with this, please feel free. I'm thinking all stock components?
Thanks

I believe a GM parts guy should be able to look up both applications and tell you if they use the same part numbers or if there were different size flywheels manufactured.

Either way IMHO the starter will need to be matched with the flywheel.

Shipping large bulky parts is always a problem. Nice to see someone has taken the time to make it as painless as possible, but....

From the land of "grits and gnats" and now "Ticks"...
Im thinkin Ill stay north of the Mason/Dixon line for a while there Bud!!!
At least 'till October when I'm FL bound!!!
Good luck figuring the driveline questions out. I doubt you'll have much trouble.

Then all of a sudden no more posts....? :WTF

You been playing with little sloey a little too much or what? :smack

A genuine update is needed here............

Yep sloey and I are good friends! :rolling:

Yea, had to spend some time sorting out the 635 for Julia to drive to college. AC, wheels, tires, front control arms, interior rear deck and speakers (fiberglassed), door locks, and more. It's good, sort of, but I'm back to work on the vette now! Tranny is off! Decklid almost back together, rear gutter ready to spray hopefully today or tomorrow. Just ordered a chunk of stuff from Davies, small bits and pieces $380!! I'll post some pics soon. I should get the deck back on and the left door off this weekend. Want to have the doors and interior done by the time the trans gets back! Then it's ON...:partyon:

Wow,
Talked to Tick today. The T56 is in for a level 2 build, and now they tell me it needs:
4th gear
reverse gear (damn?)
Input shaft
two syncronizers

...another $770!! And what can I do, it has to be done. The parts go out to the cryogenics shop next week, then they'll get it back together. Really nice guys to talk to I must say. No rushed phone calls, they make sure you get all your questions answered. Should be a damn nice transmission when done!

One thought though, you'd think they'd make a tranny dyno that a shop like this could use to spin the transmission to speed to check for noise etc... ??

Deck lid and progress pics

just so you know I haven't been playing with mr. sloey too much...

OK, well I was going to post some pics. But I can't figure out how to get a link on my pics in Flikr!! I could really punch the guy that would make something like this so friggin hard. Help all over the place, but not one easy reference for how to share pics. Dammit... :spanked:
