Mike will powder coat your stuff for you. No need to wait to sent to him.

Frame looks awesome and $347 sounds like a hell of a good deal.

I probably won't get the body painted this season, and was considering spraying a flat black guide coat or undercoat or something on it for now. I actually like that look, but would not want to keep it forever. I have seen the photos of the "17" flared flat black 'vette and think it looks really bad-ass. The funny part, however, would be having a flat black body and super glossy frame.
I am kind of at the end of our budget, but was thinking that I should order new soft lines for the brakes. I will have new master, main lines, and calipers and it seems kind of silly to put who knows how old soft lines back into the system.
Oh, yea. The calipers came in from VBP. They powdercoated them red and they look great.

Looking good Brent

Just wandering what you are going to do with the rusted bolts and screws. I have thought about sand blasting them on my project. After blasting they would have to be coated in some way. I also thought about replacing them but my experience is the new bolts will rust quickly and to replace all would be costly. If coating the the old bolts and screws what do you think would be the best route? :cheers: Mark

I am not totally sure. Mike will replace the stuff on the rear. I am going to replace a lot of them, but not all. Time is going to be a problem (as well as budget) and I need to manage both.
I finally got time to get the diff and trailing arms coated and will ship them off tomorrow.

I go on vacation next week and hope to get a whole lot of stuff done. We shall see.

I had a visitor at my house today:


Actually, Josh and I were at the shop all night and we took Kaoss out for a run. That was the first time I rode in the car. It is actually the first time I rode in a C3. That is odd because it is such an extreme c3 for a first ride in, and it is also kind of strange that I am spending all of this time and money building a car that I had never ridden in, much less driven. :laughing:
I got some powder coating done over-night. I was really impressed how the "chrome" came out.

It did not look like much when it went on the shields, and I could hardly tell where I had dusted, but a couple of minutes in the oven and it came to life. I have kept everything black under the back end, but may do the inner part of the half-shafts in the "chrome" because that part is really smooth and it might look cool.
Josh gave me a corner of the shop to set up in and I moved into that tonight. A few days ago there was a shelf unit in front of an office that said "FREE" on it, so I grabbed it. I set it up along the back wall and put a bunch of parts on it.

A few days before that I was driving back from the shop and saw a brand new looking Jobox on the curb with "FREE" on it also. Yea, I grabbed it even though I don't have use for it. I gave it to Josh to put paint and stuff in. Man, I love this free stuff. I need to drive around and find some C3 seats with "FREE" on them also. I got one seat with the car and need to figure out what to do about that. I am running out of budget, and am tempted to just put some eBay racing seats in it just to get it on the road, but I sat in a friends car that had some of them and they really did not fit me at all. I hate to buy something without sitting in it first.
Here are some of the parts that I got coated tonight.

I have to sort through the small boxes on top tomorrow. They are full of baggies of bolts. I have to go through and see how well I labeled them to see if I can figure what goes where and replace them.
If things go well, I may get some of the front end put together today. We need to see if the rack will clear the motor mounts they put on the frame.
I also have to call Ram and see what hydraulic throw out I need to hook an LS1 up to a Richmond.
I am way behind where I should be on this, but I hope that things move along now. Most of the dirt work is done. I have to scrub under the body and sort through old, greasy bolts, but after that it should be much more fun. Everything on the car will be new, rebuilt, or cleaned up and powdercoated. That is the part I have been waiting for.

looking good Brent.:thumbsup: Have you came up with a name for your car yet? What brand of powder coat equipment are you using. I have been looking at eastwood systems. :cheers: Mark

I think it is Eastwood equipment. It seems to work really well, although I have never used anything else to compare it to. I would really recommend getting one if you are doing a restore. The equipment is dirt cheap, you don't need much of a compressor, and you can get a cheap/free oven off of craigslist. It would pay for its self the first time you use it. It is also kind of fun to do. Dirty at times, but fun.
Names? We have a couple of options, depending on what color we go with. I will get back to you on that.
This afternoon I got a bunch of stuff laid out for the front end. I am headed over to the hardware store to get replacement bolts and hope tonight we will get a lot of the front end assembled.

Worked over night and got a lot of the front end put in.

There were, as always, a few hitches. The first thing I had to do was repaint the rack since the paint was bad on it. I could rub it off with my finger. After that, it went pretty well. It just takes me longer then it should since I am still new to all of this. I don't have the rotors yet, but may hang the calipers anyway. Just because I want to look at them :laughing:

Gonna head back over there after dinner. The rack goes in next, and may require a little work because of the motor mounts. It is stupid hot here (like most places) and it is really better to work over night when possible.

Ditto here in Vegas, :WTF so I get around that problem by working before the sun comes up or after it goes down, and soaking my T-shirt in water. Work until it dries out, repeat...

Your vid makes it look alot easier than I remember when I did my front end! :thud: ..of course, I still had the body on...:smack

Ill give you $100 an hour if you can work on my vette that fast and buy you a plane ticket both ways.:rolling: just need a little advanced notice to get the parts setup and ready. Shouldn't take over a couple of hours to complete. :devil: Mark
