Hi all, just a little question about my 79 fuel gauge. A couple of months ago i lowered my fuel tank to remove tow bar setup then raised it back up. Now could wire have gotten caught somewere and shorted out as gauge went off the scale to the full side then after about 10 mins driving it is back to zero when it should be about 3/4. If it was shorted to ground would it blow the gauge? got to do some work to the old girl soon as it cools down here, 100*f in my shed lately:thud:

Your sender wire is most likely loose.

When the gauge pegged to F the sender wire didn't have good contact with the gauge.

When the gauge pegged to E the sender wire grounded out, probably on the tank itself.

You 'might' be able to see / reach the sender wire by peering in the filler hole of the body above the tank.

Most likely though you'll have to drop the tank to get the sender wire back on.

:thumbsup:thanks D-B you were spot on. i went in through the filler ,easy access to wires. pulled off wire it pegged full, hmm wire on just above empty. dipped tank and almost empty. put in 20L and bought it up to where i know it should be so all good. must have been a loose connection at tank.:D
