If it's anything like my 72 it's not too tough.

Take out all the perimeter screws around the gauge panel.
Take out the screws that hold the a-piller trim in place.
Under your steering column is a bracket, take that off.
The steering wheel will now drop down a few inches.
Lift the top pad of the instrument panel and giggle the a-piller trim out.
Now you can pull the gauge panel aft.
You might have to remove the vacuum and electrical lines off the headlight switch.
Now you can reach behind the gauge panel and remove the cable and the speedo.

If I were you, I'd spend the bucks and replace both speedo and tach with 5" Autometer's.
