I am in need of some assistance. I am restoring a 1982 CE and I have one question. I have seen several online and 1 in person . some of them have brown paint in the taillight holes and some do not. Can anyone assist me. which way is correct and if the brown paint is correct would anyone happen to know the paint code for the brown paint??. One more question could someone decode my vin # ?:thud:

I believe the taillamp area was painted on all the CE's. Here's a link to all the paint codes you will ever need...

I think the 6th digit should be an 8.
It should read 1g1ay878xc5111308

Break down;

"1G" indicates U.S. built by General Motors; followed by "1" for Chevrolet; "A" designating the occupant restaint system incorporated; "Y" indicating Corvette; and "87" indicating coupe. The eighth digit identifies engine type ("6" for 350 with 4bbl carb in 1981; "8" for 350 with Cross-Fire Injection in 1982); followed by a check digit (which can vary); followed by the model-year ("B" for 1981; "C" for 1982; followed by the assembly plant ("S" for St. Louis, "5" for Bowling Green) ending with a six-digit build sequence number.
Starts at: 100001
Finishes at:125407

th 6th digit in my vin # is a 0 that is the only digit I know what it means, that digit says that it is a true collectors edition as far as the rest i do not know except that is 1 of 6799 produced what I am really wondering is what is the number of production it is:nuts:
1g1ay878xc5111308

the x is the check digit and it's a complex bugger to calculate. It's easier done w/ carfax, try 0-9 and only the correct one will work
vin # is

1g1ay078xc5111308 can any decode this to tell me what # it was in theproduction run of 6799.
thank you
TK:cheers:
you can only see it's the 11308th car produced, unlike the 78 pace cars the collectors just ran with the normal production numbering sequence, only the 6th digit identifies it. Being 11307 it's about halfway down the production run

Painted. Here's a CE with the optional V54 roof panel carrier. Taillights are painted.

The CE Registry might be able to come up with a code for the accent paint.

Correct. Time/build date will give you the day the trim tag was attached to the car, but it will not tell you how many CEs had been built before your car.
