My 84 auto tranny will not shift in to overdrive. I try to manual shift it no response. I have changed the fluid, no difference. Any hints?

your linkage cable might be loose. i had the same problems after i struck a tree branch and it cut my cable, check under the car you should see the cable there. its easy to spot. wiggle to see if its loose.

I checked the cable it was not loose. I could see it move when I press the accelerator to the floor( with out the engine running)

Check the switch on your brake pedal. One section of the switch is for your brake lights, and one section controls your Torque Converter Clutch. Check with a test light or volt meter. Just because the brake lights work okay doesn't prove that the T.C.C. switch is working properly.

I took the car to the transmission shop. 2nd and 4th gear are gone. I am rebuilding the trans.

Time attack first race is April 21. First Auto cross is May 20 and next Time Attack is May 26. I should be ready by April 21!
