AC Blower Air Vent Etc.

Im trying to figure out if my Max AC works like it should. So when the AC is on MAX, the kick panel door should be open and the plenum door should be closed?

Im getting good air flow out of the side vents, but my upper vents dont have that much flow. They work, there is just not as much air coming through them as the side vents. I have confirmed the kick panel door is open, as it seemd to want to close when I switch to norm, but there doesnt seem to be any change in the amount of air in the center vents when I go from norm to Max,

any ideas?

Max just switches fom outside air to recirculate. It will not affect air flow rates, but does "sound" different.
IF the flow to center top ducts does not change with moving the controlls, blower on max speed, and then go recirc/max air whatever they call it, your controller has failed, there is no vacuum going to the center dash pot controlling airlfow from the main plenum to that duct....it keeps going to default mode, which is heat and maybe window defrost or some such combo....most likely the fault is in the plastic controller itself, the entire housing typically falls apart, and I THINK someone has picked up making those complete assys maybe sections/parts of them, recently...some years ago I fought a long dirty drawn out battle royal, but won a Pyrahhic Victory over it......never again....
Quite likely your missing the connector between the diflector box and the upper duct also. Most seem to be missing including mine, there is a 1" gap between the ducts so not much air comes out of the upper vents. MRVET is right, the vac selector switch has a problem, hose connector might be loose, might be the switch itself needs fixing.
Got the AIM? Although sometimes not entirely clear, the AIM shows the entire AC vacuum system and lists a chart of which doors should be open or closed under the different seetings on the console control. Also shows color keys for the various vacuum lines and where they go.

I do have an assymbly manual, but its really difficult to understand and really crude. Its black and white and does not show system schematics at all. Maybe your talking about a different book than what I bought off e-bay. You say AIM? What I bought was a 400 some page book made to go into a binder printed on front and back. ITs somewhat helpful, but not for this issue.

Try to acquire the Helms "Shop Manual."
