My daughter Allison is a student at Baylor. She was driving home on Friday for Spring Break. It was raining pretty steady and another car started to hydroplane. That car hit the rear wheels of an 18 wheeler, bounced off and hit another car. The chain reaction was started. In all, there were fours cars and the truck involved in the accident. Allison does not remember much, but from what we could tell she she went through a ditch which was full of water. The water slowed her down a lot before she went on top of the cables that divides the freeway. She slid down the cables until she hit a post that holds the cables in place. She stopped just 15 feet before going into head on traffic. The first thing she could remember was staring at the air bag and seeing the "smoke" from the gasses that deployed the airbags. Her first thought was that her Jeep was on fire. Another car stopped to help and a guy helped Allison out of the passenger door and brought her to his family's car so she could be out of the rain. She was able to stay with them until the State Police showed up. My wife and I started out immediately to go to her. The weather and traffic was so bad it took us 4 1/2 hours to get to her on what is normally a 90 minute drive. That was the longest 4.5 hours I have ever experienced. Allison is pretty sore from the air bag hitting her and the seat belts holding her in place but no other injuries.

My brother and I went back to Huntsville, TX to bring her Jeep back home. Here are some pics:

This is the first time we saw the Jeep on Friday night:

Damn... well thankfully she is okay. She will probably be sore for a while. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get her checked out anyways. I've pulled many a person out of a vehicle that looked worse than that and thankfully more often than not they are okay.

My wife took her to the local Urgent Care Center where she had X-Rays done. No other injuries except a small cut above her right eye where her glasses was pinched between the airbag and her fore head. Her neck was really sore yesterday, but that soreness has gone into her shoulders. The Dr. said that would probably happen.

Hey Bill, glad to hear she is ok. It could have been a lot worse if she got hit head on.

when I read the thread title I feared the worst, but I'm glad to see it turned out OK. Hope she doesn't have any lasting effects. Any idea if the Jeep will be totalled or repaired?

Bill -

Thank goodness she's OK. It isn't fun when you're kids are hurt or in trouble, and you're trying to get to them.

Hope she heals quickly and with no long term ill effects.

I'm glad your daughters OK. I also have a daughter who's 27 now. She will always be my little girl as yours will be also. Could have been much worse. Makes you want to give them an extra hug or 2 .

I think the Jeep is repairable. When we first saw the Jeep, my daughter looks at me and says, "....can you fix it Dad?" I said I will do the best I can, but be prepared that it may not be able to be fixed.

After I got it home on Saturday where I could get a real good look at it, I think I can fix it. It will take a while however. What did the damage was a 2 in diameter steel post which holds up the cables between the freeways. It missed the frame - not even a scratch on the frame - and stopped before it hit any suspension. Once we crow-bared the sheet metal away from the tire, it rolled normally and steered fully both directions. I turned the key to see if the motor was free and it fired immediately but I shut it down immediately so as to not cause any other damage.

We only have liability on it, but the person who is at fault has insurance which should pay for some of the repair.

Right now I am looking for a donor Jeep where I can get most of the parts I need.

Thank the Lord she is ok. I'm now recovered from 18 wheeler accident from 7 months ago. Hopefully the soreness will go away soon. Since she likes Jeep's she can buy my 89 Grand Wagoneer:laughing:

Jeep Cherokees are awesome, sometimes I miss mine. No frame damage means it can be repaired at home. Since there were thousands made parts should be easy to source. Good luck with the repair.

Glad to hear your daughter is well and it's obvious she is a car person when she asks if it can be fixed.
