Putting the steering column back together and was wondering if theres any tricks to putting the lock plate retaining "c" ring on. Despite our brute force deriving from our ripping muscles we cannot push the lock plate in far enough to get the retaining ring on. Any help is appreciated.

I rented a tool from Autozone to remove and replace that ring.

It can be done by hand, but it ain't easy. Much, much easier to rent that tool from Autozone as BBShark suggested. Telescoping Wheel? Then you also need to extend the upper portion and lock it into place too.

After alot of failed attempts we finally got it in last night, I will keep in mind that tool the next time I have to rip apart the steering column. appreciate it guys. Car is close to being on the road (hook up horn, put in rear ebrake cable, figure out why the windsheild wiper motor is smoking and i'm all set.)

Put a patch on the wiper motor and tell it to quit or you'll take away it's electricity!!:rolling:
