I've seen that a bunch of times, usually after having the battery disconnected.

I do as it says, then i usually don't see the message again. If that's the first time you've seen it, I'd just blow it off. If you see it every time, it's a different story.
I heard that if dirt gets in the ignition keyhole or on the the chip in the key it may not read the resistance correctly. If it happens again maybe try some compressed air or some computer dust-off in the keyhole.
Thanks a couple of days ago it told me charge system fault.I guess my battery is going south.

Well there ya go.
Did you try to turn your steering wheel? If so you would have noticed that it was locked! This is the dreaded message that announces the column lock going south. There are many threads about the subject. One of the causes for the column lock problem is a low battery voltage. When it drops down to a certain point the steering lock will not disengage even tho you can still start the engine. Search under column lock bypass to find all the info. Good luck.

PS: There is a GM recall and extension order for this particular problem. Check with your dealer to see if it applies to your vehicle.
LOL!!! I've seen that plenty times this week. The first time I just saw "remove key wait 10 secs" then that's when I noticed my steering column was locked!
I saw it again this morning, and it did send chills down my spine. Luckily it released right after the ten seconds
Get it dealt with ASAP,if it locks somewhere on the road it's a flatbed ride to the dealer!$!$$. Check if the recall work was done. A word of warning the GM fix for the problem is very unable. I have installed a column lock bypass on my vette, cost is about $50 and is the only sure way to eliminate this problem. I highly recommend going with CLB.;)
I've had the column lock on me everyday since Monday when it hit for the first time. One thing I've got from this thread was that the memory chip on my key may have been dirty. I cleaned it up with Isopropyl Alcohol today, and the problem has not come back today at all (keeping fingers crossed)
I'm not saying the chip on the key being dirty was the reason, but it certainly wouldn't hurt keeping it clean. I'm still scheduled for next Tuesday to have the dealer fix it, and even after that, I may go CLB just for peace of mine

I was one try short of having to call a tow truck Tuesday. A last desperation attempt to unlock the steering wheel saved me a couple of hundreds. (I was 60 miles from home)
