Anyone know if an ashtray door can be fixed without taking it to the dealer. The door catches but will not stay closed. 2006 C6

Had the same problem on my 07 Z and the proper fix is to replace the ashtray
unit - Had the dealer do mine and it took about 1 hour to replace, because
the console and center stack must be taken apart. If you do not want to
have the dealer tear into your interior the only other solution is to leave the door open or crazy glue it shut

Thanks, going to the dealer is like going to the dentist. I hate it.

Check the parts department for the cost of the unit and decide if you hate leaving your baby with the dealer more than wrestling with it yourself.

BTW, if you decide to do it yourself, you could consider a new console kit in color or carbon fiber, a new color matched shifter boot, and or B&M shifter plate (Mn6 only). Hey, if I have to take something apart, I like to see or feel some improvement when I put it back together - not just "ok it's the same as when I bought it now.":D

I checked with parts when I had mine replaced and was told it
was $75 for the part - I watched every move when mine was replaced
and some parts of the replace procedure are very very tricky - you
must be very careful not to scratch, scuff or damage any of the interior

Your post is very funny - but very true
Hell I have the same problem too. Maybe they can fix my windshield wipers at the same time.Double Damm:agree:
Hi All,
A little late to this party but does anyone else but me think the engineer who designed an ashtray/door that when needing repair needs to have the entire console removed? It's a $1.69 part, a $.20 spring and we need to remove the console? Can we say 'over engineered"? It's been awhile since this post has been active, are there any new solutions? Asking for a friend....
Probably not, no posts in the last 14 years.........
