it really depends how much you want to lower it. i lowered mine just by backing out the bolts at the end of the mono spring, i guess you call it, until there was about 1 1/2 threads left. this lowered my car about an 1 1/2 " which was enough for me. i've been told you can remove the bolts altogether with no issues, i would check that out before i did it. how ever you decide tolower your car in case you don't know have it 4 wheels aligned and to re-aim your headlights. hope this helped.

If you want to retain ride quailty then get the coilovers. They make the car ride better.

i personally did'nt notice any ride difference, but that's me.
Seriously? Could be due to you having a coupe but I've driven several C-5 Z06's before and after coilover swaps and the ride quality was the thing that struck me most.

Under my avitar, theres a link to my gallery. My car is pretty slammed at 2 1/2 inches, my black c5 was 3 inches. I removed the front bolts, shaved the spring mounting pads at the center of the spring. The ride quality on my black c5 didnt change that much, the silver one is more ridgid, as its a z51 suspension, but on good road, the silver car is a slot car. The rear bolts i replacex with 8" long grade 8 bolts from a hardware store. I just put 19 inch wheels on my car with 30 series tires, so im going to drop it another 1/2 inch

Heres my drop. 2 1/2' WITH 19s. As you can see the 19 inch rim with wheel is 3/4 of an inch shorter than the stock tire, (4th pic), so i need to close the gap more, i'll drop the whole car another 1/2".These are 19 on all 4 corners. The stock wheels are 17" front 18" rear. I may go to coil overs one day, but my car is just a weekend warrior. The LG kit looks solid, but only 1" ?

I had my Z06 really low with the stock suspension and longer bolts. It really drove rough.

I installed LG GT2 coil overs and my car is at the same lowered height. The ride quality of the car has improved 1000% in every aspect. No side stepping hitting a bump around curves, no front end dipping when braking, no body roll around turns etc, they soak up bumps where before it rattled my teeth... etc...etc... It truly feels like a 4 wheel independent suspension now.

I wrote an install procedure on my web site.

See link at the bottom
LG's GT2 Coil Over Install C5 Z06:

They are a direct bolt in yes. Adjustable spring rates, adjustable height, and adjustable shock firmness.

This is how high my car was new.... all the say to where it is now. Im at the same height with coil overs as I was with the longer bolts.

Mine is lowered on stock bolts up front and longer bolts in the rear. Rides pretty rough and "tracks" real hard. If I hit a dip, depression or anything irregular in the road, the car darts around. Its pretty unsafe and I intend to have it addressed very soon. Toque, this is what you had as well and the coil overs got rid of it?

I am aware there are other ways to address the bump steer, just trying to see if the coilovers can solve that problem while addressing some other concerns of mine.

Yea my coil overs really seemed to address the concerns you have. Of course you can't get rid of all the "tracking" issues. With tires we wide as ours, and roads that have grooves in them, the car will follow. :)

I removed the front bolts and cut 2 ribs off each rear bushing a few days ago on my 2004 Z. The handling/ride is so much worse than on my previous set-up which was lowered completely on stock bolts with no cut bushings. I couldn't agree more with other comments on how badly my car now tracks and side-steps when hitting bumps.

Needless to say I'll be changing things back asap.

What I can say is that my car corners better when lowered on stock bolts and I noticed no reduction in ride comfort at all.
