John McElroy, influential host of "Autoline Detroit" a weekly television program seen on Detroit's local PBS affiliate and also on the Speed Channel, reported on his "Automotive Insight" program on WWJ radio this morning that GM has a new, top-secret facility under construction in Wixom, a far western suburb of Detroit.

What will happen in this facility? John is reporting that GM will use the facility to create handbuilt engines for GM's future performance cars, much in the same way that AMG does for Mercedes-Benz - with one technician building an entire engine by hand.

Candidates for this program? Most likely the 625hp V-8 engine for the upcoming ultra-high-performance version of the next generation C6 Corvette, code-named "Blue Devil." Also, future engines for Cadillac's aggressive new V series program, which will include V-8s and reportedly even V-12s.

I like what I hear. Too bad I won't be able to afford any of that stuff.

From what I hear about the C6 Z06 will be significantly different from the base model in not only performance but looks as well.

Ya, the rumor we heard here was that it may have a CF body! Certainly the Blue Devil will look very different also. Vette is turning into its own line!!

The Blue Devil will be in Lamborgini and Enzo camparos. I can see it in the car rags now: "The BD Vette simply does not measure up to these two super Euro cars. It is is .002 seconds slower to 60 and took a quarter of an inch longer to stop from 150 MPH. In addition its measured top speed was only 202 MPH - 1 MPH slower than the Lambo. Although the BD Vette's slalom speed of 85 bested the others by about 15 MPH, the BD's other performance stats no doubt suffer from cutting production corners to keep costs down. At $100K, the BD sells for only a small fraction of the $400k+ Ferrari and Lambo."

Do we know that? I've seen it mentioned, but didn't know it was a certainty.

Wouldn't that be cool!

This is a VERY accurate comment, no doubt.

Not intending to be snide, but no we don't know for sure, that's why I said "rumor." I think the first time I heard about a full CF body, that was not presented in a speculation context, was from the poster who seemed to know all about the C6 white buc on the GM shipping "table."
