Lutz was "vice chairman/senior advisor providing strategic input into GM's Global Design and Key Product initiatives" in 2009 when The economy tanked and GM almost went with it. In his latest interview, Lutz repeats that the C7 was scheduled to be the first Rear Mid Engine Corvette, but GM's financial crunch pushed it for another gen.

He also said that Cadillac would have received a sister version and that the design had been fully mocked up and painted silver. Lutz also said that the Cad design was one he loved and would have kept that car forever if it had been produced.

Maybe even more interesting, he states that he is certain that the entry price of the C8 will be within $5,000 of that of the C7. Although he doesn't get into the reasons, perhaps feeling they are self-evident, GM did not invest $750 million in Bowling Green to sell fewer Corvettes than in the past and pricing the C8 like a Porsche or an Audi R8 will result in a fraction of the current production/sales.
