Hi, the Bose radio in my 2001 sounds terrible. The left channel seems a lot less audible than the right. The volume is a lot lower and it just doesn't sound like it should. No codes on the DIC and no other unusual problems with the car.
Anybody else had a problem like this? Thanks in advance..

Based on your description it is either the Bose Signal Processor or the radio itself.

The radio feeds the output to the signal processor. The signal processor then feeds output to the front speakers and also feeds output back to the radio. The radio then feeds the rear speakers.

Why don't you see if someone near you has a spare radio to try out. If you need guidance on accessing the radio here is a good link. If you need info on accessing the Bose unit we can get that to you also.

You just need to go far enough with this guidance to remove the radio. On a manual car you don't need to remove the shift knob. You can separate the shifter boot from the console and rotate it so the console will lift off and leave the boot and shifter knob.

Bose

Thanks for the advise on my radio. I think that if I go so far as to take it out, it will be replaced with something else and it won't be another Bose. The radio in my PT Cruiser is much better.

Fortunately I rarely listen to the radio and I have no incentive to upgrade just to hear the thundering base of 10 local stations all playing the same Top 10 Mariachi Hits!

Now... if someone offered a plug-n-play XM replacement head, I'm in!

But they don't - every 3rd party solution I have seen "looks" like a 3rd party solution (to me). I like the integrated look of the stock radio, just not the functionality. Can't believe that C5s never had an XM option!
