I've been looking for a new C-6 and think I've found one that almost fits the bill. I've been looking for one without the transparent roof as I've heard they can cause the interior to be VERY hot in the summer. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad ) with this top? Also, I've wanted a car w/ the Magnetic Ride Suspension which is difficult to find here in Denver CO. All I can find are cars w/ the Z-51. Should I bite the bullett and just order a 2008 or is the Z51 just as good a suspension (w/o being too harsh)?

I have both the transparent top and the black top for my car and have never used the black top. I lived in the Washington, DC area last summer and the car was never too hot to drive with the transparent top and it is my daily driver. Depending on what color car you are planning to buy I'd definitely get the transparent top. My car is black so it matches perfectly and looks great from both the inside and outside. I spent the last four months in Pensacola, Florida and never had a problem with the heat there either. My 2 cents.

A must-get option that has received many accolades. It is by no means harsh, but it makes the handling of the car very crisp.

I have never driven a non-Z51 car but I definitely love the Z51 option. I haven't done much racing other than one trip to the drag strip but I plan to do more and love taking hard turns on the empty streets. The ride is firm but nowhere near as punishing as my dad's '85 without the Z51. I've heard good things about magnetic selective ride control as well though. Tough decision. The tires that come with the Z51 are the same as the Z06 and have less tread depth, wear out quickly, and are more expensive to replace than mag ride.

My 2007 Coupe has both tops and the Magnetic Ride Suspension. I live in the Washington DC metro area where it gets hot and the roads in DC where I work can get pretty rough. In respect to the roof I just got my car in December so I haven't had to go thorugh a whole DC summer yet but we already have had a few days where the temps got in the 80's and one recent day where the 'vettes thermometer read 92 degrees. On that day I had the transparent top installed and the car was parked outside in direct sunlight for at least 6 hours. The interior of the car wasn't any hotter than any body colored roofed cars that I have owned; but I would recommend getting both tops if possible so you can switch if it becomes an issue.

The Magentic Ride Suspension (F55) is great and I would hold out for a car that has this suspension. I keep my in sport mode the majority of the time but there are few areas in DC that I drive on a regular basis where I switch over to tour and it improves the ride significantly. Availabilty of the F55 seems to be an issue some areas as it seems some dealers don't order cars with this option. I considered both the F55 and Z51 and liked both options but it is doubtfully my 'vette will ever see a track so for my situation the F55 was the better choice. Either choice is good.

If your looking to do any sort of spirited driving I would recomend the Z51, Ive driven on rough roads and the suspension is so well designed that it is not really that harsh at all. With the roof i left my car in sun for about 2 hours while detailing and it did get hot in the cabin, the a/c cooled it right off though. I really enjoy the clea roof even though 90% of my drives are with the top off, it will still give you that open feeling.

For the suspension id recomend driving both and see which suites you beter, goodluck and enjoy.

Thanks to all for the great input. I recently joined Digital Corvettes and am really impressed with the knowledgeable responses I've been receiving. I hope when my 2008 gets here that I can return the favor.

Happy motoring to all!

Order an 08 model. you will get more HP, and you can build it exactly the way you want.

As far as the F55. Awsome. Since 07 the F55 gets the larger sway bars and bigger brakes along with the EOC. The F55 always got the upgraded tires just like the Z51. They are the f1 supercar EMT tires.

I track my car every chance I can and the F55 holds up great, that s coming not just from me but from my instructors coming off of Z06s. Very little performance diff between z51 and f55 now adays, but the ride in the f55 is sweet. The Z51 is not bad in the street unless you have a lot of bad roads.

The F55 does take a little getting use to on the track.

The F55 works with the active handling system, so in the street it will help in some situations ( it can change the handling on 1 shock to compensate for conditions the active handling system is helping with...overbraking in a curve and so on, so it is an added saftey feature if you think about it)

If I order an 08 it will be set up the same as my 06 for the most part. If I wanted more performance I wouldn't get a Z51, I would get a Z06, but I like my convertable so no Z06 for me this year.

No matter what you get the C6 is an all around great car.

C6/Z51/Trans Top

I agree with the above. Atlanta is ridiculously hot MOST of the time! I love the trans top + I have black interior, and I have 0 complaints. Plus it is a great MoonRoof! As for the Z51, love it...go with it...RIGHT NOW!!!!

i have had 5 vettes and 3 of them had the glass roof including my current 06 and I LOVE THE GLASS ROOF. in the summer it does get hot in there but it does not take long to cool off. I live in dallas texasd so are summers are 100 degrees and i can still stand it. but damn at night looking up through the roof is awesome. as far as the magnetic ride control my opinion it is a waste of money and just another computer operated system that can go wrong. the
Z51 is nice but also not needed unless you are going to race it often. they have made giant steps as far as the car to be smooth for a daily driver with the Z51 but again unless you are going to race often not worth the 1695.00.

It is nice hearing from people who actually have the MSRC in their car. I almost got F55 because of the constraint on Z51 at the time. I'd like to ride in an F55 to actually feel the difference. Hopefully that will happen sometime soon.

The Shocks in the F55 should never need to be changed unless you break one (Acccident or something). That's one less thing on the wear and tear list.

If you want a future shock upgrade...say coilovers, then don't get the F55.

Also an upgrade to EBC Red stuff pads made a huge difference in my cars stopping power.
